Picked these up at the junkyard today, was pretty pumped so snagged a rebuild kit from a buddy of mine and went to to work.

Rebuilt them, polished them up, and hit the brackets with hi temp black. No idea what I'm putting them on, but they will be on the shelf waiting for the next project.

Here's a before and after half way done...

ok, will those bolt to the mark VIII spindle? and if they do, what size rotor has to be used? i see those calipers bolt to the caliper bracket, my cobra calipers just slip into the bracket, and stay in place with a pin, i dont like that, i want calipers like them in the picture but will they work with my 13 inch rotor or do i need a smaller rotor? i dont want my cobra calipers anymore.

They bolt up, but you have to re-drill a Mustang GT rotor or go with a thunderbird rotor which is a little smaller than a stock mark rotor.

Be good for a stock wheel Mark upgrade or a T-bird project

There is nothing wrong with how the Cobra calipers mount. Many racing calipers use similar designs. Many have but a single pin to pull and the pads will fall right out.
Your problem is unique to you Jamie. Stop going ape chit over it. I realize its annoying and if I was there I would find and fix the problem for free.

You are not a dumb ass and can figure this out. Make sure the anti-rattle clips are in there properly. They can easily turn sideways when installing pads. They make contact horizontaly not vertically which I have seen people mess up.

A slightly bent retaining pin will also cause issues. Also if the washer is not behind the cir clip then they will rattle.
If the pads are new ond you have non OEM banjo bolt washers then they will rattle.
If the phoenolic pistons have not been replaced after 2-3 brake pad changed then they will rattle.

Oh yeah, if you have clip on wheel weights on the front wheels then they will make a sound that is similar to rattling brakes. Check to see if you have clip on weights on the front wheels. If you do then I bet they are also scrapped from hitting the spindle.

Call me mang, Ill do what I can to walk you through this stuff.

Anyway back to the PBR thing. I really dont understand it. Mustangs have crap brakes. Marks have crap brakes. Marks weigh more. Why go with a smaller system? Yeah you have clamping force over a SLIGHTLY wider area but is diminished by swept area and it also increases the biggest problem we have, heat.

I tried to stop my car after hitting the speed limiter the other day and it was scary at best. I cycled the brakes 4 times to help diminish the heat but they were still cherry red and partially glazed. A smaller rotor would only do worse.

Just because they have two pistons does not make them any better.

Rotor area and thickness is where its at. Cobra has a good area to stop the Mark well but the rotors are too thin to do it repeatedly. That is why my next system will have similar size rotors as the CObras but will be thicker and a two piece design to help disipate heat better. Thats also why I want the Temple bumper so I can force cool the bishes.

fwiw, stopping my car with the 20's on it is easier/better/less fade with the bigger Cobra brakes then the stock setup (same with the stock wheels, but the heavier bigger ones show it more of course ;)). I even tried a few different pads on each to be sure.

Mark VIII Rotor 11.57"

Thunderbird Rotor 10.87"

Difference of .7, don't know that I would put them on a Mark now either, didn't realize they were almost 3/4 of an inch smaller. Probably install them on the little bro's Thunderbird so he can slow that V6 down a little faster and maybe miss a deer next time......

I have them on my car and have had no problems. They definitely have much better stopping power than the stock calipers.

Been using this setup for a year now...no complaints as of yet...but yes they are a tad smaller rotor vs the mark viii's brakes...but I don't test my brakes like that they work when I need them and that's all that matters...fwiw I plan on upgrading to cobra/Mach 1 calipers before I require new pads and rotors with the current Pbr setup...probably install Pbr setup on my '87 Tbird project
