Question, what can I do to make my LS faster and stronger, on a budget hah. I have already installed a K&N drop in air filter, what else can I do and what are the approximate costs?

What kind of budget we talking about? You can do an exhaust, you can get the tune from Torrie, you can replace the entire intake and not just the filter... several things can be done.

Either like the car for what it is or sell it and buy a Mustang. You can make as much power as you like with it.

The only reason you have a budget for working on the LS is so that you can complain about it being busted. True story.

THIS is how it always starts :).. people will do a minor air filter upgrade, then next thing you know your dropping in a Eaton m90 :) Don't get addicted!

Naw man, i know all the cops in my area well, they know me by name, but not for the bad reasons. Its cause I am in college right now

Oh btw, there's always used K&N intakes on craigslist for <100, give you a few HP and a nice growl from the engine.

Theres not much you can do to make it faster.

A tune or intake wont make it faster. Intake will give it better sound an appearance, tune will help it shift and come off the line better but if you want faster you can get a bottle, forced induction, engine swap or a different car.

the easiest way to shave a couple of full seconds of your 1/4 time would be to buy a for sale sign and a new issue of wheeler dealer.

but seriously, not much at all can be done with this package.

easiest are intake and exhaust, then tune, then bottle, then tune, then more bottle, wait for the bang, then new motor with options a lot of money, too much time, and the know how and fab skills to make it all fit and iron out all of the many many problems you will have one at a time.

(substitute air compressing device of your choice in lieo of bottle if your pockets are unusually heavy and need to be lightened up)

Work on efficiency, power and speed will follow.

The engine is an air pump, remove air flow restrictions from the induction to the exhaust. Read up on basic hydrodynamics (flow of water) since it relates to air flow. That will help you visualize how air flows to your engine and out the exhaust.

Truly, there is only so much we can do with these engines unless one goes forced induction or sprays. My heads are ported but that is not nearly enough by itself. I am about to spray in order to get the performance I am looking to get. Alax has a turbo and has some serious potential to lay down some nice ass numbers once he has the bottom end of his engine built to allow for the boost he could run. Another former active member(Quik) had a supercharger.

Agreed. Dropping the K&N filter in didn't add more power, just more maintenance.

On a budget, probably best to just get the tuner and call it good. You're not going to get big number without spending big bucks.

with this car, your lucky to get medium numbers with big bucks!

True. Then again, someone with deep enough pockets is already driving something that makes big numbers from the factory. Not like us poor folk.

175K on mine and no bang yet though it would SUCK to have another $5K into it and go bang.

Save your money unless you have a spare $1000 (maybe a little less if you already have an xcal) as this is what you'll spend even on a a safe nitrous setup. You could hack it for about half that but the odds of "bang" mentioned above become very real. On a car with and kind of miles, you'd at least need a new stock fuel pump and be limited to a 100 shot. You also have to be able to do all the work yourself or else it will be much more than $1K. If you can't afford maintenance, then you surely can't afford additional power.
