Hello

I have a 2004 Navigator with in Dash factory DVD/Navigation with steering controls etc...; I am quite happy with the system and would like to keep it as is.

I want to however hook in my iPhone into this system. I am quite handy but have no clue how to even open the unit to see what is available interface wise on the backside of the unit.

Please advise.

I have been able to pull the factory unit out and don't see any open ports!

So do I have to replace this unit? What do u recommend ... I don't want to loose the steering controls however.

You can add an adapter to the factory radio so that your MP3 can play through your system through the satelitte (SAT) input.

The following online dealers are good...input your make/model/year of your car, and they display the options:

Sonic Electronix -- http://www.sonicelectronix.com/
iPod Car Pros -- http://www.ipodcarpros.com/

They resell products made by these aftermarket companies:
Precision Interface Electronics (PIE) -- http://www.pie.net/
iSimple Solutions -- http://www.isimplesolutions.com/
Axxcess Interface -- http://www.axxessinterface.com/
Scosche Industries -- http://www.scosche.com/car-audio

I'm using the PIE FRD03-AUX/S adapter (RCA inputs to SAT connector on my 2005 Aviator radio) with the iSimple IS75 cable (iPhone 30-pin connector & 3.5mm jack to RCA). This allows me to connect my iPhone directly to my radio, and play any sound from any app (I use Rhapsody) plus the iPhone gets charged. Having the 3.5mm jact connection provides flexibility to also plug in my Sansa MP3 player...

All for less than $100, is a good solution for me to listen to my music on the really nice SoundMark system in my 2005 Lincoln Aviator...it has a built-in CD changer, but no navigation nor a rear seat entertainment system. From what I can understand, the AUX button on my system is completely non functional...
