Engine light - Diag Performed EEC test - Needs intake manifold runners.

What is an intake manifold runner?

What does it cost?

How difficult is it to install?

Dealers wants $1000 to repair.

Only runners that might need replacement would be the IMRC plates. The actual intake manifold wouldn't just go bad. If the IMRC controll stops working then that would need to be replaced. Other than that It would be a vacuum leak, bad seals or gaskets. IMO

what year is your mark? For $1000, IMRC's should be made of gold if that is what the dealer says is the problem-can't imagine its the intake tubes, even a gssket shouldn't be that much, although we are talking dealer rates-get another opinion, that is nuts.

The dealer wants to replace the plates and controller would be my guess. No way in hell I'd pay that. A replacement motor in good condition is less than that. Plus install but you get the point. I paid 850 for my 60K 98 engine.

oooooooooooooooooooo a 96, your screwed........id pay the dealer 1k to do the job, if they can get them lol

Ok, thats part 1. I have a 96, I can help you. But, since you had a check engine light, what was the code? The runners themselves don't go bad. I took mine off, and cleaned them by hand. Then put new o-rings on the ends to seal them. Then put new gaskets on.
As far as the controllers, mine threw a code of 1518 or 1519. It came up as bank 1 imrc stuck open. Unfortunaley, the code was wrong. IT was the drivers side, bank 2 that had a bad sensor and a bad leak. I destroyed my passenger side for no reason. I had to buy both sides. It cost me $271.xx plus shipping a piece from Vintage parts as purchased thru max from 5 star. I believe they have been obsolete for a while now.

If it's the IMRC's, I have 3 spare sets (unique to 96's), hit me up and I'll try to help out.:D

need more info..

what year is the car?

There are two parts that could be an issue if its a 96-98 Mark 8 that is the IMRC "controller".
if it's 93-98 then it could also be the IMRC plates themselves.

Neither should be 1K to fix, keeping in mind the IMRC controller is no longer available..

The actual IMRC themselves aren't that hard to replace.
you pull the intake manifold off and they are "right there" between the heads and the intake.

the "controller" is a PITA to replace because it's bolted to the backside of the drivers side cylinder head.

Intake maniford runner control actuator 56LY9S514A

Right front side - 1996 MarkVIII

How can I find this part? This 1996 mark is a replacement part nightmare.

You can't... no new ones exist... have to try and find a good used one...

I have contemplated using an msd window switch and a 97-98 IMRC controller on a 96, the open close sensor volts should be the same...

Drivers side is: F6LY-9S514-BA.
Passenger side is: F6LY-9S514-AA.

Contact Max at five star. HE may be able to get it thru Vintage Parts, if they still have any. When I bought mine 2 years ago, they were $270.xx a piece, lvc cost.

yea but the failure prone second gen controller has its own issues.

I dont know of a good solution for this, to be honest.

96's are the total suck due to the 96 ONLY parts that they have.

id go with 93-95 actuators, same year vac solenoid triggered by the window switch. this is exactly how we did it on the thundermark, and it still works flawlessly!

Brandon

They had to use a trigger switch because they were running a 4Valve engine with a 2V PCM. No source to trip the Vacumn solenoid open on them.

BTW,

I know I said this 2 weeks ago, but I'm shipping your package out today.
