A Forrest County judge's order banishing Robert Mackey from coming within 100 miles of Hattiesburg has been overturned by the Mississippi Supreme Court.
In 2007, Mackey pleaded guilty to a drug charge and Circuit Judge Robert Helfrich sentenced him to 30 years in prison. The prison term was suspended as long as Mackey stayed away from Hattiesburg.
Mackey was given 48 hours to leave town.
The Hattiesburg American reports court records show a Hattiesburg police officer spotted him in town six days later and arrested him. Helfrich ordered Mackey imprisoned for 30 years.
The Supreme Court, in a split decision Thursday, reversed Helfrich's decision and sent the case back to Forrest County.
