Help JBL amplifier wiring for a 1993 Lincoln town car

Hello I am new to this website and in need of help any is appreciated. For my 1993 Lincoln someone has decided to splice the volume control to where the gray receiver with the red button. inside it has 3 prongs and a red one and I wondered why on earth should someone splice that wire my grandfather had bought it for me recently and I thought it was the radio it wasn't, then the speakers it wasn't then. A good friend of mine said it sounds like a wire so we check and what would you know.
