Anybody ever take their car in for service and suspect the dealer went out for an extended joy ride in their LS?

I took mine in earlier this week since I was having some misfires. I got her back two days later with an extra 20 miles on the clock, a quarter of a tank less gas, and my double din is loose in my center stack and is wiggling. They had to replace four of my coils. I don't know what the procedure for the stress test on the coils if but I doubt it would have resulted in any of that happening to my car :(

The tech did want to talk to me on the phone and was asking me questions about the car after he was done diagnosing it. He said it drove like no other LS he had driven before and wanted to know what had been done to the suspension and if I had an aftermarket PCM along with the exhaust and my intake which he was able to visually see.

Bastard

Damn, thats a little fd up if they did joyride in it. At least they could have put the gas back in it lol

Mutherfuhrers. At least they could have done the service and left it the hell alone. Driving it in and out of the garage they should have no reason to get it to a point to notice any work done to the car. Unless they test drive after repairs, I don't know for sure.

The misfires I was getting were under light acceleration between 1500-2500rpms. The tech told me he was getting them between 4000-6000rpm. So I guess he was redlining her between stop lights or something

Damn, 4 to 6,000 rpm? Yeah, he was enjoying your ride. What a violation!

Another reason to get a dash cam :)

My car was test driven when I took it in for coils, plus gas was missing.

When I was at the ford dealership downtown ford we got a sick mustang in the service department they where gettin on it and being general douches with this guys car he could hear it reving and went off on the service manager which made me laugh what idiots

That sucks man. No idea why the in dash would be wiggling... I would take it back and tell them first off, why did they touch it... secondly fix it from wiggling.

When I turned it on to leave to I had noticed it was set back to factory settings and all my stuff was missing off it. I suppose that could mean the pulled the battery when they were doing something, but it was a pain to reset all my nav and audio settings

At least I didn't pay anything for all this. I'm still within the 100k supplemental Ford TSB program guidelines.

Nothing at the dealership. I left mine at a collision center for fender/bumper work. When it's time to pick it up they give me a certificate stating lifetime warranty blah, blah, and the mileage. I get in the car and look at the odometer and it has an extra 25-30 miles on it. I didn't look at the odometer when I dropped it off, so either they went joyriding or they made a mistake on the certificate. They were supposed to email me pics on how the repair was going along and I noticed they skipped 2 days. It was probably ready sooner than when they told me.

Most likely, test driving it before and after the repairs. 20 miles is over doing it thou. The tech would have know just going around the block once.

Lose of gas, letting it sit and idle. Reving for the misfire. Granted, you shouldn't hav elost that much. Not enough for you to really notice.

As for the mods, intake visionally noticed. The exhaust was visionally noticed and heard. Asking about your mods? Not that big of a deal. I get that, when I take mine to the dealer for oil changes.

The double din being lose could just be that it already was a little. You just never noticed. After all of this, it seems a bit more lose to you now. Maybe a little paranoid. Don't blame you thou.

There is a driving procedure to check cylinder misfires (kind of a datalogging program). They gave me a copy of the procedure, but it does require a couple WOT runs from 40mph until it shifts. I think it's a mode 6 or something like that. I forget, as it's been a year.

20 miles?

Definitely a joyride. With as hot as your LS looks im not surprised.

Well 2 seperate 10 mile tests(before and after repair) wouldn't be out of the norm. Gotta remember they have to drive back to the shop too. Sometimes they also have to drive a little bit to get to an area where they can legaly drive at higher speeds.

I went for a drive last week with a mechanic regarding a noise I was hearing. He took me on his "route" and it was an easy 7 miles round trip. The more intermittent the problem, the longer the test drive will be...

It wouldn't explain the 1/4 tank but it would explain the distance.

every time i bring my car into the dealer to have something fixed (not just maintenance) they damn sure better test drive it, and make sure its perfect. and when its a intermittent or marginal coil, i would expect them to drive it long enough to be certian that its perfect.

the gas on the other hand, better have AT LEAST what it had before going in.

When I brought my car in for the no-start issue, they had it for 2 weeks +. On my bill was a 15 dollar charge for gas. It does make sense that we should be responsible for that part of it, doesn't it? I mean, they aren't borrowing the car for the night for personal use or anything like that. Or maybe it's something that should be absorbed in their diagnostic fee?

If I was working on your ls, I think I would need to do a few test drive as well. I can't blame them for wanting to, I want to :D

this is what im leaning toward, @ $80-$100 an hour, they can spring for a couple of gallons of fuel.

also, if the car is not starting, what did they need so much fuel for??? (unless of course like everything else the dealer does, do they mark up the price of fuel 300%)

To clarify, I fully expected them to drive the car before and after they did the coils. It only makes sense that they would have to, no argument there. It's the length of miles, missing gas and the 4-6k WOT pulls they did which caught me off guard.

None of the coils were fully failed and throwing codes. So maybe the stress test is harder to do when they are all marginal?

if i was working on your LS, i would need to do a few test drives also, dont worry, i wouldn't put that many miles on the car ;), but it probably wouldnt get that good of gas millage for the few short distances it would get driven either! :steering :D
