Ok, I've been kicking the exhaust issue around for a while. And now it actually doesn't sound as nice as it used to, I also think I have a leak in the 3rd cat/resonator area because it gurgles a little down there and after letting go from 1/2 throttle it stumbles occasionally and makes noise down there.

That being said I have all the parts, x pipe, tips, and I will be ordering 02 sensors to have replaced at the same time, I understand that the 02s will add a few bucks to the job but oh well.

How much will this cost? I emailed a pretty reputable shop and he broke it down like this...

"There is quite a length of tubing involved, as well as tight clearances around the gas tank and rear end that need to be addressed with care. As a result, there’s potential for it to take significantly longer than say, a late 80’s Chevy truck.
Long story short:
$700 – you supply all parts (muffler, x-pipe, tips, and oxygen sensors)
$850 – you supply all parts, less oxygen sensors
>$1000 if we need to supply mufflers and o2’s

Of course, the exhaust will be fully welded, and treated in high temp paint to ensure a quality, long lasting system...."

Seems expensive given the fact I could drive to NJ and have Geno do it for less.

Realistically on the higher end how much would this job run me? There are plenty of real shady places around here and people who are telling me to "go talk to blah blah tell em I sent you" but I want to have an idea of what to expect to pay, I'm not the kind of person to do my research in person. If I go to a shop I'll just end up paying whatever they say, which is why I want to know what to expect.

I was expecting at the MAX this would be 500. Seeing that they are only supplying the piping and replacing 02s. I will give em everything they need to do it....

Opinions?

i just paid $100 a few weeks ago to have a 3inch exhaust ran, i supplied the Y and muffler, $25 each from summit racing. shop around, find a friend that knows a guy at a muffler shop helps too. a single will be cheap and easy to run, duals on the other had is going to take a bit of effort to fit them, and your going to have some crazy bends.

Yeah I was expecting to pay 300-400. 700 seems out of this world, I won't be going there but I respected his honesty.

just as i thought, they are just trying to rip you off becuase your young. the exhuast on a mark isnt to bad to run, and the "hard to fit aroud the rear end" is BS, the gas tank part is tight though. they just see a younger guy, nice car, probally low mechanical car knowledge (no offense), and they get dollar signs in their eyes. screw em man, just shop around, hell even say "this shop only quoted me this much," that actaully works, lol

Yeah I figured as much about the price. Most mechanics do try to burn me. The only shop I trust with my car is a decent guy right around the corner but his turn around time blows.

Heres the latest attempt to burn me;

The alignment shop didn't even have a printout the first time I asked for it. They tried to spin a ' your rack and pinion is a little out of whack' line to me. And they "lost" my printout. So I asked if it was saved to their pc, they can just reprint another, they just agreed to re-do it. And when I asked about the measurements for the first time, he said "the measurements needed to be updated in our computer". "For a 15 year old car?" he said yeah their system was out of date.

After I get the printout I open my backpack and show him the specs from my ford manual, the specs they had in their shop were a little more forgiving on pretty much every measurement.

But yeah, screw that exhaust shop. They're located in Middletown, RI which is a beach town with a lot of wealthy people.

I guess I'll just get a spanish translator and go to one of the 30 shops in Providence that can do it. Still dunno what to really pay though.

Update:

Tidbits of the email I just shot off to him:

After a little review, the picture I sent you was an example of the Lincoln Motorsport qx4 cat-back system.

He charges $899 for this system installed with all mufflers and the double x pipe, warranted for 10 years

I’ve seen members of my club (throughout the country) pay anywhere between 200-400 bucks, some including mufflers/piping others not. After seeing 700 bucks I had to check and see what others have paid, not even close. I’m sorry Chris but I can’t justify paying 700 bucks on an exhaust for a 15 year old car, I paid that much for it. I do understand your companys reputation does allow you to command more for the price but upwards of 1,000 for this exhaust is ludicrous seeing that I can get it done by the man who defined Mark VIII performance for much less.

Upwards of $1,000 this guy must be smoking the best sh!t out there.

Maybe there are dumb enough people out there to pay that but I can't be throwing money at this car like that anymore!

even the LMS exhuast is grosly overpriced. but i wouldn't worry about that shop too much man, just shop around. even stop by some local performance shops and ask for shop suggestions.

o2's

i get those o2's for $54 a peice. the FORD 1's there npk i think.

I paid right at 700 for my exhaust, including parts and labor.

Update: He took shots at the qx4 system and the price saying that the products are probably generic mufflers blah blah and that the bends aren't that good are crooked and brought his price down to $600. Still too high.

Our system installed is now $749.99 where did the $899.99 come from Rev?

Hardened steel hangers with poly bushings, aliminized heavy guage steel 2.5 inch piping, twin xx pipes and the LMS LIFETIME SS mufflers with tips, mirror chrome polished, entire system has a 10 year warranty on the pipies, hangers, welds & workmanship.

I thought 899 was the price they said in the whole mandrel/crush debate.

749 isn't bad at all, considering what he's asking!

Here's a pic of the decal I picked up from you.

go with genos set up its the best bang for the buck out there. and has a way better sound then anyother muffler i have heard in person. just my .02cents.

I spend less than 400 for my setup, x pipe, dual in dual out magnaflow muffler with x pipe built in, all stainless pipe, and magnaflow polished stainless oval tips. That price was everything included (which i provided) plus installation.

I paid 250 for my whole exhaust. I had the x pipes and the mufflers. It took him about 4 hrs to do. I think he did a great job. I would refer anyone to this guy.

^ exactly. I'll probably get it done after my mothers and gfs birthday the last week of august.

I don't know why some muffler shops charge so much. You can get a great custom exhaust around here for $300 - $400, you supply the mufflers. I'm not talking about junk either, but nice quality bends & welds.

Genos price isn'y all that bad considering that he will provide everything, just wasn't too impressed with that one that was done by them, Genos exhaust on his mark looks awesome where as the other was just so so.

That guy you are e-mailing is nuts!

This is the guy who emailed me telling me about his shop and how great they are....

I am Sorry that i did Not Respond To Your Previous E-Mail.The Reason is that Upon Review of your Illustration Of What You are seeking To have Done I found That It would Be Cost PROHIBITIVE and Chose Not To Bid.I Have no Interest At all in Quoting That Job and If I Did It Would Be Close to Double or More Than Your Stated Price.Thank You And Good Luck Shopping

Stated price was the outrageous 750!
