Has anyone tried to dye their seats at all. After helping a friend paint some interior peices I wanted/thought about changing the "cream"(?) color on my interior to a black. Giving me a grey and black two-tone interior instead of grey and cream But my seats are that same cream color and woulndt match unless they were black also. Its probably not worth the trouble or money. But jw if anyone has had any luck with this.

I didnt say I was going to jump right into it and do it, I know it would be really difficult and easier to just my seats all done at an upholstery shop I was just curious if anyone has tried it and had luck. My girlfriends dad is restoring a 65 mustang and was able to get the seats back to their original color using some sort of dye so its definitly not a crazy or impossible idea.

SEM paint products makes a dye that is real good. This is all I use and have had real good luck with it. You can only get it at higher end auto stores or online at TCP products or go to spraygundepot.com and link from there. Just follow directions, very important.

wow guy! let me know how it works for ya and maybe i'll take on that project. I'm about to rip my interior out anyway. I am spraying the entire car with a sound deadening stuff that is like a gabillion times better than stock and 2 gabillion better than dynomat. Im stoked!

ha alright. not once have I said I was going to do it. But next time I have a question or am curious about what other people may have tried I know not to come here becuase my curiosity will get bashed.

jhargarage, thanks for that link. I will check it out. Im not real serious about doing it just didnt know if anyone had tried it. They dont recommend color changes anyway, that stuff seems to be more for restoration. Maybe I could be lucky enough to get seats out of a parted out ls or off ebay.

there is a product called lizard skin that ,all thou xpensive, it is one of the best spray deadeners I have ever used. if you ever watched UNIQUE WHIPS Remie is using SEM dye on the dashboards, etc.

I wouldnt be worried about the door panels and other peices changing color, just the seats. I have had success changing the color of interior panels and keeping there texture. But never thought about ever touching any leather.

The LS has leather match, seat and back where it touches the body is leather, the rest is vinyl and the leather is coated with polyurethane. Taking it from cream to black may work OK, take it to an upholstery shop and see what they say.

i called around today but it was already after 5 and didnt get an answer from anyone. im going to try and get a quote for new upholstery not for them to dye it. I figure somewhere in the 500-600 range for custom black leather seats, maybe perferated black inserts or something

I know a guy who restored an old Porsche. He dyed his interior black and it turned out great. As far as I could tell it was black from the factory.

I have no clue what he used. Unfortunately he moved out of state and I don't have any idea how to contact him, or I would ask. There is a guy on here that has done a lot of custom interior work. I bet he would know. You'll have to search the forums to find it though.

man more power to ya, id just find different seats, way to much work and Im pretty anal retentive when it comes to detail. that just sounds like no fun. Good Luck
