I needed a burst panel for the underside of my intake and no one in my area had one and most of them didn't know what I was talking about so I called Max and sure enough he had one and I had it in my grubby hands in a few days, Max rules, bigtime!!!:)

On the bottom of the intake there are two plugs, front and rear that look like freeze plugs and are called "burst panels" by the Ford parts dept., part #F1AZ-9A450-A.:)

Hmmm, according to my Ford parts software F1AZ9A450A is listed as PLUG-INTAKE MANIFOLD but a burst panel ... never heard of that.

Why are you replacing them ?

I posted a few months ago, parked in a resturant and when I came out the car sounded like open headers and then popping and misfiring. I guess too much pressure for some reason and the one by the TB blew out. Two places said that the timing chain jumped a cog or two and the Lincoln dealer had the car for two weeks and thought the same thing. The last place I took it too found the problem in about 20 minutes and they never heard of them popping out with a stock engine but they heard of them popping if there was a supercharger on. On the part bag after the number it does say PLUG but the Ford and Lincoln place by me called them burst panels. I'm just glad that Max had one because there was none to be found where I live so now my intake is whole again.

I thought you had a different intake put onto your car, why would fix your old intake if you have a new one now?

A friend of mine up North needs an intake so I'm fixing my original one to send to him, better than just laying around in my garage, enough stuff that I can't find in there now. KustomizingKid, the airbox is working out great after cutting some of the front out of it for better breathing, thanks again!

The term "burst panel" is for turbocharged and supercharged engines as a means to vent pressure incase of a backfire. Have you ever seen a blower shoot off the top of a motor at the drag strip? Burst panels are designed to prevent this, and injury to the driver and others. what you had let loose were basically freeze plugs. The popping and backfires were caused by a very lean conditions in your motor. Incase this is old info, I havent been on line much as I am finishing college this month.

Yeah, when the plugs or plug lets go you get a huge vacuum leak which caused the backfiring and popping and finally wouldn't run. When I was trying to explain what I needed at the Lincoln and Ford parts department I was calling them a freeze plug kind of thing and they both just scratched their heads until they brought up the diagram and when I pointed the part I needed they called it a burst panel, still looks like a freeze plug to me and does the same thing but only with vacuum.

I can only get those results to the rear wheels if I take a pencil and wrap the connecting wire around to make a coil, gets the juice to it much faster and pump the boost to 1, you get neck snapping results.:D

Frogman, Now why didn't I think of that, with that kind of boost I don't think my car will stay on the ground, probably half the time I'll be airborne.
