Panel: Palin Abused Her Power in Firing of Commissioner

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A state legislative panel has concluded that Sarah Palin abused her power in the firing of the state's public safety commissioner.

The investigative report concludes that a family grudge wasn't the sole reason for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan but says it likely was a contributing factor.

The findings were released after lawmakers emerged Friday from a private session in Anchorage where they spent more than six hours discussing a politically charged ethics report into the firing by Gov. Palin. -end snip

So why don't they just say this was a purely political, ridiculous witch hunt. The investigation concluded that a grudge was only a contributing factor behind his firing...

I'll simplify that some more, the investigation concluded that he was fired for other reasons, but she had reason to have a grudge.

Thank you and goodnight. The issue has been resolved.

"likely was a contributing factor" - Remove the subjective lenses. If she had fired someone and "racial" or "religious" reasons had been contributing factors, they'd be more than an issue; she just happened to have a problem with an inlaw, lucky her.

So to highlight your emphasis, the investigation to see if her grudge why she fired him has concluded:

She had a reason to fire him
And that the grudge could have been a contributing factor, but they have no way of knowing.
Glad we cleared that up.

Good work!

You think this does not happen in Politics all over the country on any day of the week? Their conclusion that "it might have been a contributing factor" is just an assumption and we all know that you should never Assume!

It does?

Wasn't "might have", it was "likely", ie high probability of occurring or being true .

Here is the relevant part of the finding...
I find that, although Walt Monegan’s refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Safety. In spite of that, Governor Palin’s firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.
Basically, she was fully within her constitutional and statutory rights, and they cannot fully discredit the notion that Monegan's refusal to follow her orders played a part.

Can she not fire someone for insubordination? It seems pretty clear that within her power. This seems like the whole whichhunt against Bush for firing U.S. attorney's.

Here is the reply:
Today’s report shows that the Governor acted within her proper and lawful authority in the reassignment of Walt Monegan. The report also illustrates what we’ve known all along: this was a partisan led inquiry run by Obama supporters and the Palins were completely justified in their concern regarding Trooper Wooten given his violent and rogue behavior. Lacking evidence to support the original Monegan allegation, the Legislative Council seriously overreached, making a tortured argument to find fault without basis in law or fact. The Governor is looking forward to cooperating with the Personnel Board and continuing her conversation with the American people regarding the important issues facing the country.

THIS is the relevant part of the finding.

PALIN BROKE THE LAW.

End of story.

It had nothing to do w/ the firing of Monegan. It has EVERYTHING to do w/ allowing Todd to repeatedly use her office to apply pressure, ANY pressure, to Monegan, and she sat by and did nothing to stop it.

It's PATHETIC that the McCain campaign attempted to "vindicate" her by completely IGNORING the abuse of power ethics violation portion of the finding. And to continue to claim this investigation was "partisan" is an OUTRIGHT LIE. There were MANY MORE REPUBLICANS than democrats who initiated this investigation, WITH THE INITIAL AGREEMENT AND ENCOURAGEMENT FROM PALIN HERSELF!!

Just goes to show you, the weak minded can convince themselves of anything if they lie to themselves often enough and ignore contrary perspectives. This seems to be how most here live their lives.

I wouldnt want her as vice president anyway. he should have chose someone else.

Oh yeah, let me add, that by your sweetheart stating:

Palin said:
Well, I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing … any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that.

I can state unequivically PALIN IS A BALD-FACED LIAR.

How's that, better? Can you hear me now?

Oh wait..............

This is the best you 'got'?
Obama, close friend of 'Rev' Wright for over 20 years, who has an obvious relationship with bomber Ayres, and Resko, who somehow manages to slip Barry some money so he could inhabit that mansion-maybe you could make a case that, statute of limitations aside, Barry not only smoked pot (and inhaled) AND did Coke, he's a druggie...
Palin targeted a loser who was married to her sister, a loser who zapped a kid with a weapon-I have no problem with what she did, I wonder how Barry would have handled it-you think Barry wouldn't intervene IF he had a relationship with an obvious nut case and a family-member?
Even if he (or Palin) were a private citizen, family comes first.
Really, you could do better than that, couldn't ya?

And that's another reason why this is such a non-story.
Palin did what everyone would have done. She didn't do anything wrong.

Reality is, she's unpopular amongst government circles in Alaska. She's shaken up the establishment, she's fought corruption in her own party. That means she has establishment players out to get her from both sides.

This is obvious to everyone but the most jaded and biased.

I can state unequivically PALIN IS A BALD-FACED LIAR.

Where is the proof that she lied? It seems it is you who is the liar, as usual.

Did you read the actual ethics code? It is being interpreted as broadly and vaguely as possible to be able to say that she broke that code. Any personal benefit she may have experienced cannot be show to be more then coincedental, and the report admitted as much.

By the standard they are using, if she personally benefited from her actions as Governor reducing crime near her house, it would be a violation of the ethics code.

But the fact of the matter is... SHE NEVER BROKE ANY LAW! you are LYING when you state that she has. You are also ignoring the fact that she was found to be working completely within her power. So where did she break any law.

As usually you are shown to be a opportunist who is greatly exagurating and lying to distort the truth. Your words are meaningless. In every post I have read of yours, you have yet to demonstrate one shread of intellectual integrity when it comes to politics and concervatives in particular. In fact, you almost always demonstrate a complete lack of integrity and honesty. You have absolutely no credibility on any of the issues you post on.

Just goes to show you, the weak minded can convince themselves of anything if they lie to themselves often enough and ignore contrary perspectives.

...yep. You are a living testament to the truth of this statement. And your blatant insertation of huge text is extremely rude and uncalled for and shows you to be a childish individual. Why don't you go home and let the adults handle the big issues?

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Typical whacko response when proven wrong: Attack the messenger instead of debating the issue. Do you work for the McCain campaign?

Shag, you would not recognize proof if it smacked you in the face, as you've clearly demonstrated by your complete, intentional ignorance of the facts shown in my post above (the ruling stating Palin broke the law) and the quote from Palin herself after the ruling was made public (stating she did NOT break the law). You've done this again and again in your unsubstantiated arguments here, and on other issues such as the Obama/Ayers connection which Foxpaws has completely and thoroughly debunked (Kurtz' failure to show proof even after allowed access to the files he claimed would show a "smoking gun" covert connection). Oh, I suppose now you are going to claim that the files that contained that "smoking gun" has been shipped to Syria? :bowrofl: Keep grasping, I'm reloading.

Once again, you are lying. I did "debate the issue" in the same post that you pulled that quote from, and you know it. But we can't expect honesty from you, can we?

Your attempt to take the moral high ground here is disengenuous and comical. It is like Bill Clinton trying to take the high ground in a debate on marriage.

FYI: you never cited a law in this thread. You cited a policy; more accurately an interpretation of a policy. A law is not the same thing as a policy. But you shouldn't be required to acknowledge that distinction, right?

If anyone is ignorant of the facts here, it is you, and you know it. So I am the wacko when you see a policy as law when it clearly isn't? Then call someone a liar for making a statement about her actions that hinges on that distinction?

Congratulations! While there have been many contenders, your complete lack of intellectual character and blatant dishonesty and smears have earned you the honor being the first person on my ignore list! I don't have time to debate someone who is incapable of reason or honest or seeing the truth. You are a waste of my time and a waste of time for anyone who you disagree with.

I will say, choosing her took me out of the 'undecided' column, and gave my vote to Obama.

YA, I was undecided too until Obama told me he was going to give me someone else's money. That certainly took me out of the 'undecided' column.:eyeroll:

For a while a was really doubting this guy Obama.
You know...
Who he really is
Who's backing him
Where all his money was coming from
All if 'iffy' relationships
His lack of a track record
His inexperience
His lack of judgement
His socialist views
His communist friends
His muslim allies
His bitch for a wife

But after I heard "FREE MONEY", i was like, hell ya, vote for Barry, er I mean Buraq, er, Barack.
