I know lots of you guys are junkyard trolls like me. Does anyone know of a running Gen 1 3.9 V-8 for sale at a reasonable price, meaning $1000 or less?
Thanks to any and all who try to help.

TDUB, I already looked there. Everything listed is out of my price range. But here's a toast for trying!!!

Where were you 4 months ago when I gave one away. Literally.

It's tough to find a Gen I long block for under $1000 that was running good, that is. Gen II on the other hand, you can find them for under $1000. You would have to swap the heads, intake manifold, and throttle body. All the accessories and sensors, but in theory it would swap. There is really no difference between the longblocks, accept for accessory mounting, they are all 3.9L

That's strange that Gen 1's go for more than Gen 2's, considering the Gen 2 is a better motor, or at least makes more HP. I wish I could put a Gen 2 in it, but I'm sure it would be more trouble than its worth. The bad motor broke the timing chain, (and supposedly a piston) so I assume the heads would need valve work if I went the short block route.

Gen I's were made for maybe 3 years. Gen II's for at least 4 years.

There are fewer '03-'06s than '00 (they started selling '00s about spring 1999) to 02s. Production of '03s started fall of 2002 and the '06s were built until Marchish 2006.

Per the Wikipedia Lincoln LS entry:

Calendar Year American sales
1999 26,368
2000 51,039
2001 39,787
2002 39,775
2003 33,581
2004 27,066
2005 19,109
2006 8,797

I wonder how many of the 2000 sales were to fleets like Hertz. I saw a whole bunch hit the market in summer of 2001 that absolutely murdered the resale value of the car.

My math says 2000-2002 (as this was calender years most of those assumed '03s were actually '02s due to the '03s late production start) number was 156969 and the 2003 (remember, most of the '03 sales were MY02) to 2006 number is 88553. That's almost a 2-1 margin. I would put V6 numbers at about 10%.

Odd how even with those numbers I see more gen II than I do gen I. And there lots of them down here.

I know what you mean. When you get a car, you start seeing it everywhere. I've seen more Gen II up here then Gen I, but there are 2 Gen I on base here that haven't been taken care of. Shame:mad:
