my mark's best MPG is 19.7 and that's pathetic compared to my transam that I drove the heck out of it and it had a 350 V8 and still got 25mpg and my gtp before i suped it up got 19mpg, now after all the mods i've done to it, it's almost gets 30mpg. Any mods out there to help this. These gas prices are kicking my butt :)

Clean your MAF. I cleaned mine this past weekend and saw my mileage jump from 16.3 to 19.1!!! I also noticed a smoother, quieter idle, and better throttle response.

Be sure to use electrical cleaner and not abrasive alcohol or solvents. Do not use q-tips or anything else. Just spray the hell out of it with electrical cleaner until the little metalic sensors inside shine like hell. You will notice a difference!

Also, try replacing your O2 sensors. After about 60,000 miles, they begin to die out. Replacing them will make an even bigger difference in driving.

Put a quart of Seafoam in the tank and another throught the intake manifold. Also, a better exhaust and fuel filter can help increase mileage.

FWIW, this is very true. Case in point, I took my 2002 F250 PowerStroke diesel and installed a 4" downpipe from the turbo to 5" open exhaust with no muffler. Mileage went up approx. 10% from 13 to 14.5 miles per gallon! :wrench

Replace the O2's. I'm pretty sure that's the problem. You should replace the plugs also. I am sure the car is running really rich, resulting in the poor mpg.

We guarantee 1.5 mpg better from our maf kit, 2.0 mpg from our exhaust and 1.5-3 from our chip. Make sure your plugs are good, new fuel filter and that your fuel pump is in good shape. I have 4.10's and a MONSTER tc and I get 27.5 @ 75 mph.

I get 26.5 AVG miles per gallon. 80% freeway, 10% city, and 10% balls-to-the-wall WOT blasts.

I helped a SCT dealer sort out some programming issues with TC lock-up schedules, and timing changes to improve MPG. We were able to custom burn a chip for a Gen 1 that avg 30.8 MPG on a tank of gas. This chip spent 2 weeks in my car, getting tested...I drive 100 miles a day to and from work. I barely need to stop for gas twice a week due to the "other" driving I do. My message center was reading 556 miles to empty with this chip in my car.

if you get a 4-bank chip, you can simply adjust, depending on the kind of driving you plan to do. One setting for maximum fuel economy, another for racing applications, and the others for whatever.

Just a thought. My current message center, with no chip, will consistantly read 460+ miles to empty. stock O2's, stock MAF, and only some magnaflow mufflers...if you do mostly freeway driving, and your MPG are only 20, or below...something is wrong.

RE: traction control-will have nothing to do with MPG on a Gen 1, as it stops working at 34 mph.

Do you have a name for the Electrical Cleaner you bought? and where did you buy it? I never seen the stuff at stores before

say, does the computer calculate the avg mpg that is on the display to make the miles to empty?

i never can getr above 310 mte

i get about 22 in the city, so i never figgured i had a problem, and about the same on the hwy...i guess i might if you guys are saying your getting like 30+ on hwy. I guess going 110 for 2 hours doesnt help either?

You can use Gumcutter 2+2 or Brake Clean, it will NOT harm anything. I have been cleaing maf wires like that for years. Spray closely with the supplied tube until the wires look chrome.

Got any chip ideas for a 98 lsc? I am getting 12 MPG and running sluggish. Shop says my car is running well and there is no way he can change the timing and mixture. -Says my o2 sensors are good too. Just did the seafoam clean, changed wires and plugs and it recently passed emmissions? Still runs like it's towing a boat. Maybe I just have a lemon?

Call me up. We have the best chip in the biz for this car.

Which comes first the chicken or the egg?

So, onebadMK8, if you keep dangling that performance candy in front of us,I may just cave in to my cravings and empty my wallet- still waiting for tax return. I have only had my '94 for 6-7 weeks and have a fair amount of basic maintenace scheduled soon. What catches my attention though, is that after I get the car running at basic optimum and start going for performance optimum where abouts in the scheme of things does the Chip come in? After the J-mod, MAF-kit, full exhaust package, MSD wires & Coil packs, Spark plugs, and other first mods or is it first or somewhere in the middle. I may be on the other side of the continent but if I can't get those goodies here I'll be looking you up for mail order. BTW I read the odd post where members have trouble finding shops to install those mufflers, I doubt that Midas will do it but there must be a local place that can install your sytem, ever ship out west & north of 49th (Vancouver, Canada) Oh yea, one more thing that chip, is it plug and play or does it require a specialist to install.

it uses your last 500 miles of driving to calculate that value. it's in the owner's manual. pretty weird, eh?

Some cheapo electrical cleaning stuff from AutoZone. I think I paid $2 for a tall can...

And yeah, pump the recommended premium fuel for better mileage. Pumping the cheap stuff could take down optimal performance.

We ship worldwide. The coilpacks are worthless. Start with the chip/maf/and exhaust. This is a great big 3 to start with.

the coilpacks aren't worthless if your current coilpacks aren't perfoming up to par ;)

I know this might seem like a stupid question... but what is the MAF that you guys are talking about?

What are you complaining about? My Chevy G20 van gets 4 mpg. That is not a misprint. It gets 4 mpg. I have comfirmed it many of times. I parked it today in front of my house until gas prices drop back below $1.70. I guess it back to the Honda Civic Hatchback that I have in the garage undercover. I actually love driving my Mark VIII. I am glad it gets 19 mpg, that beats 4 mpg any day.

Dude $1.70,that means you will probably never drive it again. :slam

Well, maybe in 4 years when Bush is out of office. :monkey:

I meant as far as upgrading for power they are worthless. The stock coil packs will ourperform all the aftermarket ones. They run outlaw motors at 2500 hp with STOCK coilpacks and 30 lbs of boost.
