Is there an alternative to the $40+ charcoal cabin air filter for the LS? For instance, a standard Fram air filter fits in my wife's Escape. Not charcoal impregnated, but filters dust just fine, and is about $25% the cost of the normal one.

Thanks in advance.

OK Found it online for a lot less that AZ.

Next Q: Any I should stay away from? One better than the others?

Thanks.

Andy

Yes, Bosch is very good and no it is just a cabin filter, as with most auto's you could go with out.

How to change cabin air filter...
1. Remove from vehicle

2. Blow out with compressed air

3. Re-install
Cost = Free, or about $4 for a can of compressed air from wal-mart if you don't already have a big compressor.

Thought of this, just haven't pulled it out to see how filthy it is yet. You can get only so many particulates out this way, though. Not like a new filter, but maybe good enough.

Like someone else mentioned, you can go without, although I won't, as it does keep the inside of the car noticeably cleaner (at least that was the case when I added one to the Escape).

Thanks for the input.

Yes, unfortunately that only works but so many times. :p It would be nice if they'd make a washable one. Maybe I can pith that idea to K&N.
