My A/C compressor is dying, leaking oil. Dealer quoted almost $2200 for the repair!! I said no thanks. $1800 of that is just parts! Of course that's all MSRP + markup...

I see Rockauto is about $700 for Motorcraft (compressor+drier+hose+etc), $300 for other brands.
Has anyone used an aftermarket compressor that they are happy with? Or a brand to avoid? Thanks

I've used 4 seasons on my 02 Mountaineer, it's been more than a year now since I installed it and it's been OK so far. It seems that the LS costs more than the explorers for this brand. It's made in China.

I try to stay away from four seasons. They're the walmart of a/c parts.

I used a new compressor from ackits.com. They're good folks and it was under $300 at the time (several years ago, and for a 2002 v8). Definitely need to replace the accumulator, but shouldn't need to change any hoses.
