Damn, I gotta slow down. 46 in a 25 zone, this is gonna cost + 2 points. Has anyone gone to court and asked the judge to drop the MPH so you don't get the points????????

OOoo, I cant say I did but if you aren't concerned they may give a suspension instead. It allways boils down to where you live and the states local laws.

The cop has done that for people before. I don't know what power the judge has over altering a traffic ticket.

Here in Reno NV, the judge can allow you to take drivers education class, upon successful completion will reduce your speeding ticket to a non moving violation with no points. You have to appear, it is up to the judge, and only once I believe every two years.

I got a speeding ticket a few years ago in a construction zone, double penalty, $150.00 and it cost me $55.00 to take the class on line, and it took about eight hrs; no points; cheep in the long run.

Hey thats a tough cookie. I will give alittle advice if you don't mind. I also like to speed when I drive. My rule of thumb for this is in Residential zones or Schools I drive the speed limit 25mph, on boulevards that say 35-45, yes I do go over anywhere from 5-25 mph, always looking in my mirrors and side streets. On the freeway I can be found going speed limit to 90+ depending on traffic. and I always make a complete stop at red lights and stop signs before going ahead or turning. I have been very lucky doing this. Just alittle advice anyway you would like take. OH!! I also have a Valentine One radar unit in the windshield for help.

did you get 3 speeding tickets in one day????

I think he means 3 tickets over a period of months.
I least I hope so.

Dude, getting pinched in a 25mph zone is pretty bad and you know that if the ticket says 46, at one point, you were really going 55. Law Enforcement and the Court take a real dim view of going that fast in a residential zone.

So the best I can suggest, is to plead your case to the Judge and throw yourself on the mercy of the Court.

Pretty much. The only 25mph areas around here are mainly residential streets and other places they want you to slow down (or speed traps), so there's not much leeway on tickets written in those zones.

The first thing I'd suggest is to see if you can talk to the prosecutors who handle traffic court and see what your options are. If those three tickets are all recent, I'm guessing there aren't many. If it's been more than six months since the last one, you might have a shot at a suspended sentence or a reduction to something that won't hit you in the insurance.

You can always take the hit and talk to a lawyer. It'll cost you money to have a lawyer handle it, but he'll probably have a better chance of getting something done than you will alone, especially if those other tickets are recent.

Lucky you didn't get Reckless for that. 20 over the limit is automatic reckless here in VA.

Here's a tip to help slow you down. When you're in a residential neighborhood, imagine what you would think if some @$$hole drove through YOUR neighborhood goin 10, 15, even 20 over. Put yourself in the other guys shoes.

When you go to court, leave all your excuses at home, judges don't like excuses. If you were just being stupid, tell that to the judge, and chances are he/she will lower the charge.

More like 100+ on 710 south lol

Doesn't sound good for me......

The tickets have been spread out over the last few years. This one is bad because I was in a school zone. I drive it every day for 13 years, was just hitting the brakes at the school sign. I guess I'll just have to take some lumps this time....Thanks for the help.

He's right, speeding through a residential zone is a no no I got caught doing 45 in a 30. The officer gave me a $76 ticket and 2 points he wrote down that I was going 39 instead of 45 and said that was the lowest the judge would allow it to go. Got to court and they said thats what I was getting it wouldn't get reduced or dropped even for a first offense.

On A Side Not when I got to court they explained that speeding gets 2 points but reckless driving is just a fine. Why is that?? You'd think Reckless driving would be worse. BTW I live in SC

Normally, I'd say it's time to man up and take your lumps, but speeding in a school zone is one of those offenses where they tend to throw the book at you. I haven't seen a ticket recently, but I know speeding in a school zone around here used to be automatically bumped up to the maximum fine and points, regardless of how fast you were going--when I was in high school, a friend got busted for 22mph in a 20mph school zone (his speedo said 20mph) and his dad had to get a lawyer to fight that one.

This is one of those times it would well behoove you to lawyer up. You're going to have to take some lumps on this (and I think you'd agree that it's fair that you should), but you want to avoid the full brunt of this one...
