Anyone know the 3rd brake light's voltage on a gen1? Trying to take out that brake light & put a LED strip light on the top of the back window.

I gotta assume it is 12V. I think it is a standard bulb back there. I dont think the LEDs will casue a message center error either because my 3rd brake light has been burned out for over a year and the computer hasn't complained.

 y not just replace it :D

LED Brake Light

There is no bulb out warning for the 3rd brake light, but with the Gen 1 LS you will be left with a big hole when the brake light is removed. I went w/the Gen 2 carpet tray(same fit no hole) and the top mount LED brake light at first and then decided to go larger(pic's attached). It is 12 volts, and if you switch to LED's you will notice a faint flicker when the REM awakes. It won't hurt to leave it that way, but if it bothers you just add a load resistor to match the original bulb's current draw. If you go w/the Gen 2 LED don't forget to get the capicitor that goes with it and you will also have to add a tint strip at the top to hide the housing.

Same here. Wish I would have got it tinted!

Thanx...I like that 2nd pic with the longer brake light. Looks good. Yeah I pretty much knew that a hole would be left. I was just going to fill it in with carpet. I'm also going to tint the back window dark so it won't even be noticeable.
