Nice to see some old names back around again. I've not been on here in ages as well, but like to check things out and see whats happening. Good to hear things are going well for so many :)
No more Lincolns right now, have a Magnum SRT-8 for summer toy and a bigger money pit of a Jeep TJ, lol :D
He will be missed. He was a big help to myself and the Lincoln community. I've gotten parts and great advice and help from him always, it would have been nice to meet him other than through the forums.
Yes, I changed them a bunch of times+ while I had the car ;) I got the car with original brakes, plugs, wires etc on it though as it was very low mileage.
A properly hooked up bypass is reliable, and a good one won't need a key. It's mostly all in the install, most brand name units (Compustar, DEI, etc) are good...
Check out the12volt.com lots of info and help there, wiring diagrams etc etc :)
You may want to double check that snug n square theory. Putting a gen2 alt on a gen 1 sometimes requires slotting the bracket holes so the top of the alt isn't tilted back towards the car...
My scroll wheel is getting a work out now, wheres the 'piss-off, why the $%ll are you even posting that?' button (kind of like this thread and the button itself!) ;)
Mine did that a few months ago. I had to replace the lock cylinder. $18 for a cylinder, $5 to get new keys made. Bring your keys to a good keysmith and they will cut your door part on the new keys that come with the cylinder, as they are only partially cut...
Did you follow the instructions DLF has on his site for the rear?
If so, the bracket that gets clearenced might not have enough taken off...
'bout half way down pic 2:
