The search function here is about as stupid as some of the people that come here and ask stupid questions. Basically, this site has a one word search function. Can't use too many words or you'll end up with the complete encyclopedia to go through for weeks.

Much quicker to just Google the question and let it bring you to this site or to .org and then get your answer.

EXAMPLE

http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=75948

now we search "running hot" in the Mark VIII section only and get this.

http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/search.php?searchid=1566446

Now go to Google and ask the question, "why is my Mark VIII running hot" and get this.

Narrows it down much more and might stop someone from asking such questions.

Please post other suggestions that would help people search these forums using a search engine.

Please post other suggestions

Try to use one keyword (minimum of four characters) that would specifically relate to what you're searching for. Narrow down as much as possible. (e.g. narrow down to particular forum/search titles only/search threads by particular user etc.)

Edit: Just used search to find an old post of mine, which talks about how Google can help. (found by typing Google in search and narrowing down to Mark VIII forum, then my username)

Funnily enough, that post was from a thread complaining about search nearly three years ago!

Cal, there are no other suggestions except to maybe install some sort of search filters into this sites search engine. Most times, simply going to Google and asking the question will bring you right back to this site or to the other one and not give you 372 pages to go through. On top of that, out of the 372 pages, 350 of them end up talking about vagina's, douches or pissing matches between someone.

Also, I'm not trying to call anyone stupid but then again, when you can't go to Google and search for something instead of jumping in here with your first post being a question that has been asked a gazillion times, you're pretty damn dumb. I say this because anytime a new person comes here and asks an already asked question, they get their ass jumped and then it leads into a web fight and someone crying.

Drop down menus perhaps and filters added for this sites search engine?

I posted a way to refine a google search to a specific site back in March but no one got too excited about it.

BTW, a site owner can add the google search box directly to a site assuming you're willing to accept ads, or it can be paid for outright.

I almost never use the sh!tty forum search here. It doesn't index words under four characters, or numbers. (try searching for "IAC") And if you enter more than one word, it will return all posts that contain EITHER of those words, not necessarily BOTH. The people who wrote this forum software should be bitch slapped for including such a piece of garbage search engine. Even the search engine at Cal's site is vastly superior.
