So it looks like I'll be shopping for a used junkyard tranny for my 98 LSC.
What would be the best donor to look for?

Wikipedia suggests my choices are:

1993–1998 Lincoln Mark VIII
1993–2003 Ford F-Series
1994–1997 Ford Thunderbird
1995–1998 Lincoln Mark VIII
1995–2004 Ford Crown Victoria
1996–2001 Ford Explorer
1993–2004 Lincoln Town Car
1994–1997 Mercury Cougar
1995–2004 Mercury Grand Marquis
1997–2004 Ford Expedition
1997–2001 Mercury Mountaineer
1996–2004 Ford Mustang

2002

* 4R70W used in all applications

2003

* 4R75W used in Mercury Marauder, V8 Mustang (GT and Mach 1), and 5.4 L trucks (F150, E-series Van, and Expedition)
* 4R70W used in all other applications (V6 Mustang, 4.6 L Van, 4.2 L F150, 4.6 L F150, and Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/TownCar)

2004

* 4R75E used in 5.4 L-3v F150
* 4R70E used in 4.6 L F150 (except F150 Heritage)
* 4R75W used in Mercury Marauder, Police Interceptor, V8 Mustang (GT and Mach 1), and 5.4 L-2v trucks (E-series Van, and Expedition)
* 4R70W used in all other applications (V6 Mustang, 4.6 L Van, 4.6 L Expedition, Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Towncar, and F150 Heritage).

Obviously, I'll be looking for a 1998+ and newer trannies, but what's the newest and greatest that will be compatible with my 98? Are any of the 4R75W's compatible?

i want to say 98-02 mustang gt's..the require you to repin the connector
and maybe some other minor stuff.

Try to find a 98 - 02 4R70W and make sure it doesn't have the long tail shaft. Swap the wiring harness and if it were me, I would at least change front and rear seals. Install it and plug it up.

KK put a transmission from a 99 Mustang in my Mark VIII he also did a JMOD and put in a big tranny cooler as well. :cool:

Yup... I also converted the 99 tranny to all 95 electronics... you have to change out the solenoids or they will burn up when used in an older car.

Important question, is the main harness plug white or black going into the tranny... and I mean the one IN the tranny.
