Just had my 03 at the dealer for what I knew was a failing COP, as expected. However, I thought it was standard to replace the VCG as the source of the problem. They only replaced the one failing COP, and the service rep said "I don't THINK yours had any oil in the well."

So is there an issue with COPs failing for no reason, or just because of the VCG?

Oh, I didn't even pop the hood, the car is still under warranty.

As long as there's no oil in the wells then the vcg's are ok and that coil went bad. Only replace the vcg's when they leak oil in the wells.

Yes, I've had two fail with no oil or water leak. Others have too.

ive done my passenger side vcg's and coils. No oil was in any of those wells. But the misfiring cylinder is gone. So I would assume that I had a similar issue. I'll be replacing both VCGs and all 8 coils.
