Just gathering parts right now and settled on this chip and board, what do you comp. geeks think? LOL

Chip - Intel CORE 2 EXTREME CPU QX9770 1600MHz FSB.

Board - Asus Striker II Extreme Core 2 Extreme/nForce 790i Ultra.

Thinking about this for memory:

Memory – 8gb (4 chips) KINGSTON KHX13000D3LL/2G 2GB 1625MHZ DDR3.

This is what I bought so far, not memory though thats something I am still researching. Ill be getting ll that stuff! LOL!

Be aware, that unless you are going to use a 64 bit OS, Windows will only be able to use 4 GB's of memory.

I would drop to 4 gigs of ram and stick with xp.
Is it for multimedia ?

I dont think your a gamer.

LOL I am a huge Gamer and I do graphics 50 plus hours a week. I am totally in need of ALL the ram I can get period. I am running 64 bit for sure no doubt. Some of my ad files on Photoshop are 1.2 gb!!!

Heres what I am toying with for video GeForce GTX 260 Black Edition x2 units.

Yeap. I think it might be actually 3.5GB's. Gotta go 64 if you're going big.

apparently cost is not an option with the high end components he has chosen already ....

Either way I recommend www.newegg.com for your computer parts selection.

A couple things I'll note here (but pretty sure you already know):
You will need a LARGE power supply I would recommend 800-1000 watts. this one is on sale right now and has maximum amperage on the +12v rail to support your demand... and it is modular so that is nice.
Your mainboard has a QVL (qualified vendors list) for memory, stick with it. It can save you countless headaches.
I would also recommend a 10k rpm harddrive like this one from Western Digital

Are you using liquid cooling or just air? Your system could get pretty hot with that setup. I'd love to see it when you get it all together.
I still haven't finished gathering parts for my build up yet.... put it off due to Christmas with no bonus this year :(

Cost LOL You would not believe the pricing. Im a cheapo man you kidding! LOL! I find THE DEALS!

The chip mentioned I am getting for $720.00 shipped. Newegg is good on some stuff not all.

The board I am getting for $320.00 shipped. I actually might have a deal cooking for $280.00 I am awaiting an email from the Guy.

I would rock a gtx 280, 2 if ya can spare the 900 for both, Big power supply 1000w atleast, go with a expensive one, cheap ones will only screw ya. Also a pair of 150gig raptor x's for the main drive in raid zero, and a big storage drive ta boot. And if moneys not that big of a issue I would check out dangerden.com and run a complete water system, it will prolong the life of vid cards and cpu, plus it looks bad ass. If you added all that you would be close to what im running :)

And as far as memory goes, corsair and muskin are titz. kingston is like using regular gas.

more options, I got this sound card and some bose, you won't find better sound quality anywhere.

This for a single vid card

This for SLI

Pair of these in raid zero will get you 600g and some blazing data transfer

Pesonaly I would go with one of these seeing the new cards come out every 3-6 months, plus it will run everygame on the market maxed except for crysis, 260 is very comparable also/ better in some tests.

Computer building for me is probably like engine building for you, go with the brands you know that work, take your time, don't cross no wires, make sure the cpu fan is plugged in and working, power not applied untill all done with the build. GL with the build, post if you need help, plus I alway seem to have good luck if i got a cigarette danglin while building. And on the downer, you got a 25% chance of getting a bum part. Don't get to pissed. Its part of life. 40% on memory.

You can get them for $500.00 a pair. Where did you see $900.00?

Im getting a 1000 watter for sure, have a few in mind.

I was going to do x2 72gb Raptors but the 150's are getting cheap as hell on Ebay.

I heard no good about water.

Thanks for the info man. I will need help Im sure the last Tower I built was 6.5 years ago!! LOL!!

Newegg has the gtx280's for 450 a pop, if you found it cheaper buy them. I had started with raptor 72's, the 150x's have twice the transfer rate. I've been funning water systems for the last 6 years, i love them, you can get max performance with minimal noise. Even dell and hp have entered the water cooling game in the last year. Their is nothing cheap about it, pumps, copper blocks, and radiators will seet you back.
De Ionized water does not conduct electricity. I built this one around a year and a half ago. I ended up selling it, my new system is not as pretty yet, still working on it.

I went to play COD4 the other day and it wouldnt open either. Something about vertex shading. Stupid POS integrated graphics in laptops FTL.

And holy mother of god ground zero, I'd be afraid of that thing coming alive at night and killing me.

Now my Friend is leaning me towards the Asus P6T with the new I series chipset? I have heard it's the cats a$$ but I am not sure?
