Well, I went to Firestone instead of going to the dealer to have the window regulator replace . Total cost $208.00. Saved myself $100.00 by not going to the dealer.

I used to take my 91 Escort LX and my 98 Contour SE (both cars were traded in for the LS)to Firestone for all the work. So now that my extended warrenty ran out last month on the LS, I am no longer going to the dealer for any repairs with the exception of the lifetime warrenty on the brakes. (speaking of brakes, they still squeal!!!)

I got a quote from Firestone for replacing the front struts at just over $500.00; cost at the dealer over $700.00. Sorry Dealer you lost a good customer, (due to multiple failures on the LS) I'm going else where.

I shopped around and Firestone is the lowest on most repairs.

Cool, but could have changed it yourself and save another $100.

I asked the guy at Firestone, and he said that there is a risk of breaking the window when rivieting the regulator to the glass. I'd rather pay someone to do the work and save myself the aggrivation. I used to work on the other cars, but now there is so much involved, I don't want to screw it up worse. HyeLifeLS, could you replace the struts for me? I could pay you less than what Firestone would charge!! Win-Win for both of us... LOL just Kidding

I read that other thread, who ever it was working on the rear window said that a plastic peice went through a hole in the window. At any rate it is done, I would rather have a competent person doing it right and pay for it, then an idiot screwing it up for free... (me) LOL ;)

We have taken similar automotive paths in life. I replaced a '95 Contour SE 5spd with my Lincoln LS 5spd, and at one time I owned a '91 Escort GT. I also live in St. Louis!
Were you ever on Contour.org?

Hey you are not alone man, check my gallery for my Mercury Mystique. Now it's just parked, washed with the cover on, I need to sell it.

At least your local firestone could replace the regulator. when i had my ls i took mine in and the tech looked at it and i had to give him instructions on how to take the door panel off:eek: . After the panel was off he looked at it and told me they couldn't do it because they didn't know what they were seeing.. lol.. what a thing.. so they refered me to the dealership.

About the brakes...GOOD LUCK!!! i had my ls for 2.5 years and they squeaked for 2 years. :shifty:

If it was the rear window you could have saved $150 and did it in less then 30minutes. The rivet is a plastic dowel. You push it out and then just push it in with you fingers. I laughed at how easy it was when I was done.

UPDATE peeps. The rear window that Firestone 'repaired' is having problems. It appreas that it is not properly attached to the track. I push the button to lower the window and nothing, then sloooowly the window goes down. I took it back and they said they fixed it. But no it still happens. But today, my driver window popped and the side of the window closest to the handle pitches forward when I raise it up. It lowers fine and I have to help it up in order to close it. UGH!!!!! I don't wnat to go back to the stealership, and well Firestone may be good with tires, but I'm not too confident with other things. I might try to do this my self.
Spgoode, Yes I was a Contour.org member back in 2002 until I trade it in with the 91 Excort LX on the LS. I may still be on there unless they removed my profile. Where in St. Louis are u? "What High School did you go to?" HAHA, St. Louis thing u wouldn't understand.

The front window regulator is very easy to do it yourself. Just need a little time and patients.

Simply take the door apart, all the bolts out of the panel, and pull the whole window regulator out. Motor and all.. Just easier to have the whole system replaced. I had to replace my passenger side regulator.

Back door is the same concept besides the small rivet I believe.

I had this same work done at a reputable local glass repair shop and was only charged $50 in labor. I bought the part for $47 at the dealer. Just tried to think out of the box when I had to have it done. Saved enough to make it worth it $100.

I don't know about the Firestone in your area but the one here sucks. I would never take the LS to them. I never have nor will I. My fiancee took her integra to them to put new tires on. Well, she's driving down the interstate about two days later and the front passenger wheel comes flying off. Turns out Firestone broke a stud and didn't inform us or replace it. They, at first, tried to deny it was their fault, then admitted to it and replaced it free of charge, as well as the many other parts that were damaged when the wheel came off at ~70 mph. I don't recall exactly what was damaged, but it would've been expensive.

I printed the instruction someone posted. Thanks great pictures. I am going to try this myself this weekend. But I have to try and get the parts from the dealer.

Oh great the stealership wants 178.00 for the whole assembly with motor. I told him I didn't need the motor, "come with it". I need everything but the motor, doesn't the regualtor come without the motor?

i changed my driver side regulator last week, they told me people come in and ask for both so they are selling them together now so they wont run out of each, i remember when they used to sell them by themselve, now i have 2 extra motors

I would try Ebay. They are only about $45 each without the motor. Depends on the year and if they are front or rear regulators.
Much cheaper!

Try South Point Ohio Ford. I believe they go by Nourse Ford now. I paid 47 plus tax for the part. Perhaps they will ship it to you.

Wait a minute...maybe Bedford Ford. They have changed names a number of times.

Well I ended up going to a different stealership and got the front regulator for $152.00 including tax. darn motor was included. I printed the wonderful instructions someone had posted on this site and waaa laaa, in just one hour it was done! Thank you!!!!!

Now to tackle the ball joints.... ugh!

warrenty on brakes

What's this about a lifetime warranty on brakes?

Yea, the stealership replaced my ceramic pad with the motocraps, stating that the pads warranty all repairs. Well I kept complaining about the squealing that eventually they replaced the front rotors for free. Now how do I get them to replace the back ones? I keep complaining and they put some stupid blue goo on the pads and after a couple days they squeal. Oh well....
