Please identify this switch....

On my 97 there is a push button switch on the fender next to the Air filter box. Since the car has no under the hood illumination, What does that switch do? Closing the hood activates it or opens some circuit.
 
If it's like almost all the other Lincolns, it's for the perimeter alarm. Opening the hood sets off the alarm when it is armed.
 
Thanks guys, I suppose it should have a write up in the owners manual. I'll dig into that when I get a chance. Oh, stay tuned to the How To's. I'm about half way done converting my rear trunk tail light housing to 6 bulb sockets. At first I was thinking sequential but found it raises hell with the light out monitoring as in burning out circuits. So its just an expanded running, brake & one piggy backing as a second tandem 1157 signal. Mostly just wiring to do now.
