Did the Brown Wire Mod this weekend. The reasoning behind this was to eliminate the binding feeling in the front when making low speed turns in AWD.

On these Navi's, the 4x4 selector switch has 3 positions - AWD, 4HI, and 4LO.
No 2HI position.

In AWD, the truck is usually driving around in 2 wheel drive until the computer senses a difference in speed between the front and rear driveshafts, like when turning etc., then it kicks in the front drive shaft for added traction.

By cutting the brown wire in the Passenger Kick Panel and wiring in a simple ON/OFF switch, (I mounted mine inside and to the side of the glovebox in the empty space) this turns the power on/off to the front clutch assembly in the transfer case making it rear wheel drive only.

ON - Normal operation from the factory. Front axle engages. This has to be ON to use 4HI/4LO properly from the factory.

OFF - Kills the power to the front clutch which means the front axle will NEVER engage in any selection - AWD, 4HI, 4LO. Only the rear axle will be engaged.

NOTE: This is not exactly the same as pulling the #104 fuse under the hood. Pulling the fuse kills power to the entire 4x4 system which will disable the front clutch, shift motor, and module. This mod only kills power to the front clutch leaving the shift motor and module operational with the fuse in place.
