G-RELL's Full PLasti Dip & Others

Thanks... The cover is Plastidipped.. I was "RELLY" pleased with the texture i was able to get... Did my Exby's grill last week and got it almost gloss with the same cans. I need to bend the lincoln plate a little better.

I'll paint the lower grill, install headlights and fogs when we get back from vacation...

Finished an ATV this week:

We went basic on this due to time constants and schedules (hoping to go a little crazier after his ride this weekend...will use this black as a base afterwords)

with it still dropping below freezing at night here (and some days), I didn't want to leave these pieces in the garage over night (or our cars out either)... So I did what everyone does after their New Years resolutions: Moved our exercise equip. out of the way :p

Previous owner had cut the fenders, sanded the plastics and attempted a flame job... also had some minor rash and grille chips:

If i had to guess, Id say it was 40 grit that was used

Booth worked perfectly with great positive pressure and plenty of room (~10'x15') ...door worked but needs some improvement:

Here's were i made my mistake:

After taking with the owner about how bad the sanding really was (picked up pieces at night), we choose to SEE if the dip would cover/hide the grooves....

It didn't go so well

20150117_124649_zps51552406.jpg

obviously not going to work...so had to peel:

smooth areas were fine:
20150117_124631_zpse0f8fc73.jpg

sanded areas a little tougher, mix between dip being to thin, and grabbing the groves, it took awhile (luckly the wifey wasn't doing anything :D).

It got ugly:

His frame and bars are painted this red... so we left a bit on it (also covered the paint chips):

Installing tomorrow, I'll get some complete pics then!

Thanks

Wow, nice workout to paint booth room transition, went all out! Do we see a love for the hobby turning into a part time money making gig!
Guys around here charging upwards of 900$ for complete dips. Good effort on the sanding out the ugly 40 grit. +1

Thanks man...

Booth was easier then I thought, 4ml 12x100' roll of plastic, three rolls of duct tape, a few furnace filters and a staple gun...

as for a side job, I've had a few request (growing)... we'll see how it goes.

Read the entire thread. (Glad I missed all the BS) You've done a lot of neat things to your LS! I'm diggin' the interior trim idea as my 06 Sport has the "aluminum" trim and I just don't like the look. If I cold get some kind of "brushed aluminum" look, that'd be perfect... Now I'm gonna have to look more into the whole dip or film options!

BTW, I recognize most of the backgrounds in your "around town" pix... :) Nice to see a couple LS enthusiasts nearby!

YO!

In my backyard!!!

They make a brushed aluminium wrap... Happy to help with install if you find something you like!

Hmmm, that might be the way to go. The "fish scales" look of the OEM just looks odd to me. My only concern is maybe it'd be a bit too much "silver" everywhere. Perhaps something along the lines of some of the real dark exotic wood finishes they use in the new Lincolns might be a possibility...I'll need to look into it.

I'd probably take you up on the assist for the install having never worked with this stuff before...and I've not even taken anything apart on my LS, yet! Soon I will be installing a double DIN nav radio, so that will be my 1st work to this car (other than window tints done last year by someone else). Doing a wait-and-see on the new Parrot App Radio which looks really neat, but the release date is unknown and the audio quality of Parrot stuff hasn't been all that great thus far...but this piece looks pretty interesting...

Ive been watching the app radios for a family member... interested in thoughts on the Parrot brand

So this years updates!

Starting with an awesome find here in KC Hite and I picked up...06 black on black with 110K on it.

Unfortunately (or fortunately for us) it was hit on the side:

20150411_095242_zpsz7m94883.jpg

We started with a body shop to see if it was fixable.. It was. So Hite started his JEDI tear down checking all the systems to make sure it was worth fixing...It wasn't.

A quick list

Door repair - $1300 (not including parts / donor car)
leaking AC system
Leaking cooling system
warn front suspension
bent valve on passenger bank (ran fine, low compression)
whinning alt
slight tick from motor

With all of that, it was decided to send her to the LS heaven in the sky (after a few parts were stripped!!! :gr_devil::wrench)

Items not photo'd

Hood swap and washer cowl swap
Side skirt swap
Horn swap (lol)
AND EVERY ENGINE FASTENER (they all match now!!!)

To come:

Angel eye mod (something a little different)
Fog mod
re dip (ordered today)
...and Hite's mods / swaps

That said, we are closing on a house soon (hopefully), so work done will be around that (or maybe in the new place)

We also have a parting out thread soon for everything remaining... So if you can think of anything you need from a black on black 06 (not taken) get a list together (please dont request here).

More pics after dip!

Dude you held that bumper out on me huh. haha

Amazing work guys. Looks like a straight up gen2 now. I think that is the closest we've seen to an LS Police package lol.

HA... you were far into your repair when we bought it...

Hite wanted to paint a badge on the side...

I'll have it painted by the end of the month at the latest...wont include DYC's new topcoat... but will be one color at least (and have a good base for later the summer!

New topcoat (dip)

What a transformation! Can't wait to see it dipped.

Wait so what color? Why don't you wanna go for the topcoat stuff? I am likely doing that on my next color.

I just need a quick spray right now.. After the house closing, I'll redip (banned from large purchases right now)... topcoats expensive, the last cart I put together was around $1100 IIRC.

Oh I gotcha, just redoing the white? I thought you were changing completely.

I think i'll do anthricite now... (closer to my future color). Its cheap and wont need a pearl or topcoat.. I have some old gloss I'll play with too

Camo dip!

Way cool work there guys ... one of these days, should I come trucking through MO, I'll have to ring the door bell, I'll bring the JEDI juice!

+1

G, I'll paypal you a contribution if you do a full Camo dip!

BTW: GEN II headlamps into GEN I wiring, any special needs, wiring? direct fit? hi-beam is hi-beam still? Thought Rollin had to rewire something.

I cant recall the wiring colors but passenger side was same colors gen1 to gen2, drivers side had the high and low beam wires reversed if i remember correctly.

Its hard not to love this color (or maybe its just the car)
