What did you do to your Mark VIII today?

Phone is being screwy. Storming right now here, so I can't take new ones yet. The car is dirty right now and I'm waiting to clean the engine compartment when I get my stroker kit. B heads. Walbro 255 pump. 2.2L Kenne Bell with wastegate and after blower IAT. Running 7psi right now, stock internals. Hardly drive it until I get the Stroker kit from MMR.

My Mark needs a paint job. Considering the PlastiDip process, couple local shops are doing
them.
Also have a leaking Power Steering pump, ordered a Ford reman from the Rock.

CE Hagerty-2.jpgCE Hagerty.jpgGot this CE 6 months ago and only driven it around the block. Went for a ride to the store and It's a nice car. Think I'll go for another ride today.

I have spent off and on for about the last ten days trying to figure out what is wrong with my fuel system. New fuel pump is installed and works but cannot maintain fuel at the rails. Maybe the Crank Position sensor, Ground wires, VCRM a possibility. At any rate, I am going to get the beast running again myself. I am determined not to admit defeat and have it towed to my local indy to be fixed...I do need a "new" ignition switch because after 21 yrs of use it is beat up! My right elbow and shoulder also need to be replaced...after 56 yrs of use they don't like trying to break bolts under neath a car!

HOLY CRAP!!!!!

I's $3.49 for regular here :(

Got the new speed sensor installed on my '97 'Bird Saturday...didn't fix the problem. CEL still on and O/D Off light still flashing. Still hanging in 1st and banging hard into 2nd  :( And it's throwing the same code for the speed sensor. I wonder if it's the speedometer sensor? Maybe I'll change it next. Also the A/C quit working. I think it may be the VRCM. It was blowing cold as ice when I got the car. But now when I turn on the A/C, the radiator fan comes on and I can hear a "click" that sounds like the clutch magnet trying to engage, but it also may be the relay clicking also. Can't tell. But I'm going to replace the VRCM before I replace the clutch or compressor. It's just one thing after another...

I may have a VRCM problem that is preventing my fuel pump from running...I read it is NLA new. Would appreciate any info you have on the VRCM. I have a first gen (93) and wondering wheter there is any crossover to other Ford/Linc models of the same era (e.g., Continental, Marquis). Thanks!

Just wondering, did you change the fuel filter? A couple of shots of wd on that elbow and shoulder, and they'll be good to go.

Today, is a wash and a wax. I was going to do the claybar treatment, but I'm a dingus and don't have the $19 for the kit until near the very end of my vacation. Sounds lame, but true facts. She cleans up well with a wax alone, but I'd love to be able to finally get all those molehills and little dirt pieces out of the clear.

Jbelcourt - that is extremely sharp. Those clouds in the hood are a direct mirror image. That's what I aim for truly, sans the gorgeousness of new paint, anyway. Beautiful car though, anyway.

Hey thanks man, I really appreciate the kind words.

It's possible. The VRCM (or VLCM) contains relays for the PCM, fuel pump, radiator cooling fan, and A/C clutch. And if one relay goes bad, you have to replace the whole module. As far as I know, '93-'95 will interchange, '96 is a one year only part, and '97-'98 will interchange.

On another note, I got my drilled/slotted rotors installed on the 'Bird yesterday.

Now she stops on a dime with no "shaky-shaky". :)

Finished the waxing today due to being forestalled by rain yesterday eve. But I like to think all of the hard work paid off, I still think she cleans up very well for being so near 19 years old. It's not perfect, there are a couple of shopping cart dingles in the driver's door I hate so much, to be expected being a DD. But the rest of the car is pin straight, rot free, and the paint is 99%. Here are a couple of snaps, let me know what you think guys! God, I think I'm getting to point where I need to be committed, I love this car so much. lol.

Recently changed fuel filter. ha ha. lol, I prefer alcohol, found in beer, to ease the pain!

Thanks! Yep it was the VRCM. Took it out today and it has a burnt smell to it. Went to the Pull-Part and found a VRCM in a 96 cougar, same 24 pins, tried it and I am back up and running. I need to check on Part Numbers. Both of them have the same number within the preceding and trailing alphanumeric. "12B577" IIRC. Feels good to know what is wrong with it. After I get back from a road trip to IA I will get her on the road again! Have some major work to do on my bimmer!

Nice looking rotors for your t-bird...My Dad had a 74/75(??) t-bird back in the day. You could land an airplane on the hood!

Rushsampson sir,

I commend you on your choice of car as a DD! Sweet! If you want to be committed, just speaking for myself of course, I believe you have com to the right place! Just ask Thaywood about air struts or is that shocks:p...lol

I appreciate that! Yeah.. Admittedly, an Escort or a Taurus would be a much easier keeper as a daily driver, but as I'm sure we all know, we don't always love them for their sensible practicality. That, and there is no way in h*ll I'm spending three hours waxing an Escort. But again, thank you!

...and no way am I touching the struts/shocks debacle - I know better than that. : D

While I was looking up some stuff on KBB, and NADA, I ran my 94 MK VIII,57K, and value came up 10K. I'll have to do it again in case of an error. Could it be considered a classic,20 years old? Has me wondering.

Not going to make a thread for this but......

These are $18/pc new from RA, economy coils but would work great for emergency spares. Hard to pass up for a little over $30 as a single coil from an auto parts joint will cost you double.

Note that he says they're "Oem motorcraft coils" in the title, they are not motorcraft but STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # UF191T.

had a dream last night of getting to work on my new project 97 opal base because im getting out of the hospital finally in two days since February.I have been accumulating parts and investigating issues for months since grandma passed and left me a little help $. Had my friend go to garage and pick up the parts I haven't sold off and kept my transmission torque converter and X pipe with MS mufflers and brought them to where my engine is sitting I'll probably have to change the battery and charge the AC on Tuesday give it a wash and go for a little spin looks like I will be straightening out one of my exhaust tips.

Well I wound up replacing the second LCA ball that popped out on Friday drive home from work. Just picked it up from Pep Boys where I had the new 245/45/R17's mounted and an alignment done.

Seems to drive much nicer and averaged better MPG on the short trip home. Now tomorrow I need to do a Trans fluid drain and new filter to finish it all off for the time being. Then search for a new front fender cause the tire made contact when the last joint popped out. :Bang

that happened to me when I first bought my car he said is needed front end work and we drove around first day snapped the lower control arm ball joint and dimples my perfectly undaunted car. Fix that two days later the other side went, also bending the inner tie rod so I just replace everything except the upper control arms. New sway bar end links lower control arms ball joints and strut rod bushings, now it drives perfect. I'm just getting a new motor ready as this one had a slow water leak after thermagasket treatment stop it no overheating but I'm getting everything ready. Found a 60,000 mile motor practicallyfree from a friend of the family who had a used car lot and getting rid of everything.

Other than the e-brake stuff all I did was wash it. She's still easy on the eyes. :)

I've started a list of things I want to do before winter. Brake line repair is #1, all the rest is annual pre-winter maintenance and some added rust protection on certain under-body pieces. Also have dedicated winter wheels now so I'll have to switch those out too.

It's way to early to be thinking about this. Sigh.

Today I nursed my aged CD changer back to life. It's nice to be able to listen to CDs again! There was some dirt and dust in apparently, and it didn't care for that terribly. I believe the one magazine I do have is not the greatest though, the changer skips disc 3 every time, regardless of what's in it. So I may pick up an array of ebay units, and see if I score. I know everyone's going to say something along the lines of "go aftermarket", but I really enjoy having a changer, since I have a mass of CDs still, and to be honest, and I may be alone here, the factory JBL sounds phenomenal.

and I may be alone here, the factory JBL sounds phenomenal.

I took my '94 to a few sound competitions a few years back. Took 1st in 3 outings and it beat every car in its power class with just the factory JBL sound system. Lincoln/JBL system was ahead of its time for its sound quality when compared to other cars with factory installed systems.
