So I was pretty upset that my silver winter wheels look terrible after 5 winters. I am very meticulous about my car and wheels, but I couldn't stop the corrosion. The paint started to peel on the inner part of the wheel between the spokes. Since they are winter wheels, I started to experiment. I was going to have them powder coated, but I figured I should use the $400 towards school. So I took a cheaper route and painted with plasti-dip. I'm not really sure I like them. Had thoughts of taking them off. Please let me know what you think, yay or nay for black wheels. Thanks

The flat black lloks good on your silver LS. I like it. Aggressive look.

They don't look bad from the pics, but if they are just winter wheels I think you'll be fine.

Thanks guys. The wheels were silver before I sprayed them with black Plasti dip. I just wasnt sure if I like the flat black. But its really growing on me. I wanted to see what other people thought about them. Needed a view from other LS owners lol. But I appreciate the response!

I like the look on the silver.

Makes me wonder if the plasti-dip will hold up through the winter. Apply before winter, protects through winter, simply peel off in the late spring to fresh looking wheels unharmed by road salt and what not.

You can try clear coating to get a gloss finish. If it holds in the winter, it a great way to protect your wheels, like stated above.

From what I can see I like it. The flat black looks a lot better than gloss on a silver car. I may try that with my stock 5 spokes for the winter now.

they look great I think. Its better to have something different than another boring stock ls on the road, this spices it up.

A bit hard to judge from the pictures, but i think you pulled off the look.

I think you did a great job. Personally, I'm not a fan of black rims without some chrome to set it off but I've seen a few cars where the wheels look good with the car without it.

Thanks guys. Yeah I think it cost about $6 to do all 4 wheels. Plasti-Dip is available at Lowes or home depot. I went to lowes and bought 2 cans to be safe. The last wheel was hard to do with 1 can so definitely buy 2 cans. If you decide to do this you'll need 5x7 note cards, painters tape, and about 3 hours. But I was pretty pleased with the results of how they came out. I appreciate the responses. Like Andrizzle said, I need some daytime photos. Im working on that.

Tru-Blu, I was never really wild about black wheels either because I felt they were too close to a spare rim (aka the donut), but I think looking at it finished makes the car look pretty aggressive. Mostly because of the flat black. Like Alax 7 stated, the clearcoat would have worked too, but I really didnt want to get to crazy. After all, they are just winter wheels.

So I was able to get outside this past sunday and snap some photos. My brother saw my LS and he decided he wanted to have his done to for the winter. So here they are:

Hi I was wondering if you sprayed the back of the rims or just the front also what did u use the tape for?

i been thinking about plasti dipping mine as well, after doing some reserch i think imma add the glossifier instead of clear coat, fromwhat i saw on the youtubes the clear coat over plasti dip isnt so easy to get off later ,

eventually ill get to mine
