Got mine installed today. The parts fit perfectly. I'll see if they bled the coolant properly tomorrow, but the heat is working so that's a good first sign.

$51 for parts from Rockauto, $125 for labor at the local shop.

$125 at a local shop isn't too bad (for as little as I know about fixing cars & shop rates). I was going to attempt the install myself, but if I can get someone to install it for that amount, I'm sure it will save me at least SOME frustration. :)

Forgive if this is a stupid question but does this work on all or just a certain Generation LS?

both gens have an aluminum part...that is a gen I part.

I had one saved on my watch list in ebay but it was a gen I.

Guess there isnt a gen II option??

I don't think that there is. The top of the gen II engine is different than the top of the gen II or gen III Jag engines, as best as I can tell.

There is one for the Gen II I believe. Someone on here had the part number I think. I have the aluminum housing now for my GEN I, it just needs to be installed. I have been working a lot and havent had a chance yet.

The only part number I saw on here posted for the gen II turned out to still be the gen I part.

Mine's at the shop getting installed as we speak. Will post back when it's done.

Then Jaguar part from an 03-05 S-Type is different from an LS Gen2. The primary difference appears to be that Jaguar decided to put an external resevoir tank with the fill cap that hung off the radiator. This means on the jags, there is no fillcap on the water outlet.

Here's what the jag part looks like:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/THERMOSTAT-...&fits=Make:Jaguar&vxp=mtr&hash=item415bcb6014

Without actually bolting one up, the only difference appears to be the outlet pipe missing the fill cap, a different hose, and a resevoir that hangs off the radiator somewhere. If looks like you could use the Jag piece, but with the LS outlet pipe with fill cap and be good to go. Not sure WHY you would want to bother, but there it is.

What I haven't found is an aluminum version of the AJ8-9485 housing kit. The S-Type R has an aluminum housing, but it's altogether a different beast.

Food for thought :)

Does anyone know if the aluminum thermostat housing will fit on the Gen II plastic body? If so, that would at least provide one small improvement over the existing 100% plastic assemble.

The '03-up Jaguar engine has the opening for the intake manifold back against the fire-wall so it makes sense that the Jag part will fit as if it were intended for a Gen I LS.

For anyone looking for details on how to replace this part, here is a link. It's for the jag s type but it's the same part and project. Good luck, replacing mine this weekend.

or ... one could just have a look at this version - http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/fo...Aluminum-Upgraded-Thermostat-housing-GEN-1-V8

will this still work for the gen2? because mine looks totally different from that pic. thanks for you help.

I've never seen under hood of a GEN II so I'd have to say NO as it's mentioned above that the Jag Aluminum T Stat housing is GEN I match.

Someone else would be able to pipe in and know for sure. I don't think so though and that's without checking anything.

... but we have the service manual for GEN II online here!

----EDIT: No, totally different from GEN I
