Great

All you need is to pull them plugs and open up the gaps to .055 (or .060 if you want), buy a high powered coil and bump the ignition to 13.5 from the stock 10.

If you don't you're giving away mileage and power you could have !

I average 21.5 with my '92 Cartier.. I don't take off spinning tires, but I'm not easy on her either.. Usually ahead of the pack and average 75 mph on my way to work, which is a 35 mile trip one way
 
In my 1991 Lincoln Town Car, I get 19 & 24, oddly enough, its the only car I've ever owned that got exactly what the EPA said it should.

1971 Dodge Charger Superbee(SOLD 1.5 years ago, Dad's Car) 383 Auto - 15MPG.
1993 Ford Explorer Auto w/ 4WD(Sister) - 17MPG.
1996 Saturn SL1 Auto(mom's) - 25MPG
1997 Dodge Neon SOHC 5sp(Dad's) - 33MPG.

Everyone nags at you about how can you drive something that gets terrible gas mileage. Then you ask them what they get, and they say they're getting about 22 with a Ford Escort, and then you make fun of them. I also get the fun of a V8 instead of a 4cyl.
 
Mobil 1 5W20 Fully Synthetic vs Motorcraft 5W20

I've changed between Mobil 1 5W20 Fully Synthetic & Motorcraft 5W20 and noticed that when I use the Mobil 1 (21 mpg) (friggin $5 something a quart though) my MPG goes up about 3 mpg. I just changed back to Motorcraft because I was being cheap and there I go back to 18mpg again.

Is It just me or does the mark 8 and continental seem like it gets better gas mileage then the town car even though the marks and conti have a more powerful motor. Why is that, is it the heaver weight of the tc or what. U tc guys use 87 or u go higher, would u see a increase in mpg with higher?

Wierd I get better gas mileage at 70-75 with cruise control then at 55-60 with cruise control,lol.
 
I drive a 90 TC.

It's weird my AMPG never use to work, it would always stay at 17.9. I had the shop replace the water pump, now it jumps up and down.

Stop, & Go Type Driving: 15/18
Highway Driving: 18/23

During city driving I'm usually easy on the gas.
On the highway I cruise about 75/80 or so.
 
13.4 MPG city driving at 2.65 a gallon. I might as well drive the Camaro SS instead:(

yea, its because the Town car weight. I do see improvement is the MPG if I put in 93 instead of 87.
 
Fuel mileage

My new '05 Exec "L" that I got on Sept. 6th now has 47K on it and averages 23.5 mixed highway and city driving.
My favorite car, a '95 Sig. with 447K on it averages 23.2.
 
Incase any of you guys are interested, I put this stuff in my crankcase and gas tank called Marvel Mystery Oil. I buy it at Wal-Mart and it boost the MPG in my car by about 4 or 5 miles. When I took my Eldorado to Rochester I was averaging 31 MPG highway, I used to average 25-27 MPG. And abour 24 MPG usually in town now, used to be about 21-22. I highly recommend this to all of you will fire breathing V8 monsters like what I have. And its only about 3 bucks a quart.
 
High grade gas(93) makes a huge difference not only on gas mileage, but the car runs a lot better too. Not that I have ever put 87 in the Eldorado. It requires 93(Northstar), I would hate to see the result of that.

WOW !

That's a big difference

I never noticed even 1 mpg in the 5.0 litre Bronco, but then again it gets less mpg to begin with.

I run synthetic oil in the Mopars, but the Ford 5.0 litres seem to gum up faster with it.

13.8 on my 78 TC with 460 CID - smoked the tires till they popped - more than once... May she Rest In Peace...

18.6 on 90 TC before I sold it to get my 98 LSC. Heavy, heavy foot

Same the same in a couple of my 5 Litres (Thunderbird, Mustang and a Towncar). Neighbor who was a retired Mobil researcher told me to switch to 0W30 from the 10W30. Really seemed to help on my 90 TC. No more sludge when I changed the oil.

That's fer us Canajians in extreme cold. There won't be enough bearing protection IMO !?

Are you sure he didn't mean 5W30 ?

Mpg

my 96 TC gets 19.6 around town and 25-28 on highway. In city mileage increased from 16.9 after I stated using 100% synthetic oil.
 
I've been getting 15.2 around town . I gotta keep my foot out of it.
by wed. I have my new set of cats on it hopefully I'll be getting better milage
