lol I need slicks real bad

Went to a 1/8 mile track outside Chattanooga, TN today with Aric to T&T. Waste of time for me. I was able to manage some 1.8 60's with the street tires, but when it hit second gear, the car pointed to the fence every time, and I had to lift. Must of been making some good power up top of the rpms today, because I have not had it break loose so much that I felt the need to lift before. I might need to go up to Summit this week, and see about buying some DR's. Here is the video. Aric is driving Steve's Marauder. He just put a 2 step on it, and was dialing it in.

Your gonna need a wide, sticky DR! I don't know how you can get that thing to hook at all With just 4.30 gears, tune, & running on 255/35-20 Nitto 555's, I spin the tires going into 2nd and sometimes 3rd at the track...

Mike, I thought you had mentioned in another thread recently that you would only be running a couple of passes per year. If that's the case and Aric is always with you on your passes, seems like he would have a set to throw on there long enough for you to make your passes. You know slicks dry rot too!

I had a set of et street dr's on stock rims, and they were ok at best with the stock motor and s-trim. I could not stall the car off the line with any consistency on the dr's though.

The 285 toyo proxes t1r's on the car now are good for 1.8 60's off idle, and stalling is useless with them. But as you see, these tires give up fast under higher boost. The dr's did not do this ever - just a chirp. I ran a set of bias ply inner tube et street DOT tires at SSHS8 last year, and it ran the 11.7 with them, but I did not like the way they drove on the big end, so I sold them.

Yep, I really do not go to the track but a few times a year, and the idea of custom wheels and tires for track use only is not realistic. So, even though I would love to hook this thing up with some real nice slicks, I think for what I do with the car, dr's are a step up from the t1r street tires. At least I hope I can stay in it for a 1/4 mile with the dr's.

The Mark has the hardware for slick use. It has ARP chromemoly steel racing studs, and a set of Raxle t-bird supercoupe half shafts.

I agree thats the fun stuff but some times I gotta lift. Like when lookin at the wall.

Mlschultz I have had the same problem this year with my street tires. Last year and most of this year they hooked up real good. I race bracket class and put alot of passes on them. Best I can tell the rubber compound has gotten harder with age so they don't work good anymore. I had several bad fishtailing even in second gear having to lift and go again. I got some mickey DR and that solved the problem even on the spray. Talkin with other that have had nitto's and mickey's , there's no debate the mickey's are much better. The 255's should be good for 1.7-6. With little to no burnout I get 1.9's no spin.

Like your mother told you Mike, you made the bed, now you've got to sleep in it! LOL

Your only realistic choice is the widest drag radial that will fit. I have had the ET Streets and doubt they will hold your power levels, so you're left where a lot of high power street cars are... you've got to learn how to pedal it out of the hole... consistently.

I am heading up to Summit today, and will pick up a set of 265/40-18's MTT-3782R mt et street dr's. That looks to be the biggest MT tire I will be able to fit on the rim. There are 285/35-18 t1r's on it now.

Like I said, I managed 1.8 60's off idle 2 out of 3 times with the t1r's this past weekend. The right lane I spun out of the hole, and had a 2.1 60. I did not try that lane again after that. All the drama happens with full boost at 7150 rpms on the 1-2 shift. Best I have managed with the street tires on the car now was a 12.3 early this year.

lol I had 3/4 tank of fuel, spare tire, floor jack, cooler full of water, tools, etc, in the trunk this past weekend, and it still would not hook the 1-2. So I am convinced that I need the dr's for SSHS9, or I might as well sit it out.

I hear the same about the Nitto's. Never had a set myself, but the guys I know that had a set said to stay away.

I agree with you JP. I tried to pedal the pass in the right lane, and finally just said screw it and lifted.

Nice I bet you'll be happy. Thats a little different pattern then what I got. Good luck.

Man they hit you hard on the price for the 18" tires. 16" shipped then mount and balance was right at 420.

Yep, my last mt dr's were 16", and it had the tread pattern you have. The tires alone were $500, and the extra hundred was for tax, tire swap on the rims, and road force balancing, so it ended up a $600 day for me.
