Double Din mounting Help Please
OK, I got my Silver face plate from lskoncepts dremeled enough to look good sitting on the radio. The face plate is kind of small though, and the cage of the radio will not fit on. I know the face plate justs ends up sitting in the dash held by the little nubs on the bottom and the vents on top. But how does the radio get held/mounted into the car? Ill attach pics of what I have so far. (also, you can see the trim ring with the radio is much bigger than the face plate. Ill have to cut the sides off of it to shove in between the radio and the silver face to hide the gaps)
Thanks for your Help!

On the stock head unit, there is a bracket. This bracket is attached to the stock radio via phillips head screws. These screws screw into the sides of the bracket, then into holes in the stock headunit. Im assuming these holes are in the same place in most DIN radios, because they were in the perfect spot in the Avic D3.
Then, once you have the stock bracket on the head unit (stock or aftermarket), there are two bolts that mount horizontally into the bracket, then into the frame of the car, just below the center top dash vents

you needa ISO mount the unit, take off the factory radio theirs some torx screws holding it in then youll be able to remove it and youll use those metal factory brackets to secure your new radio in, hope this helps some

Got it!!
Well, the brackets just dont fit this radio. But after 2 hours of modifing the brackets a little at a time, trimming the face plate and trim plate each a little at a time I got it to fit just right. Heres what it looks like (ill put installed pics in when the system is complete.)
Thanks for all the help, you LVC guys are kick azz!

Looks like you've done a good job with it; definitely post the pictures of it installed.
Maybe it's just me, but that eXcelon head unit sure looks like the 8-track Stereo Radio I took out of the first car I bought...

Here it is installed.Yeah that little display window is almost the right size for an 8-track.. lol. Although I bet that old 80s stereo didnt have a built in accelerometer
If anyone has any trouble installing a Double Din that is not a AVIC-3 let me know. I can tell you exactly what to do (and what not to do!) That was probably the toughest head unit install Ive done.

LS in it, I'm about to install a double din LCD in my '03 LS. Can you give me any tips on it. I have been looking all over to see how hard its going to be and how the wire harness fits because the unit takes up so much space. Any tips by anyone would be appreciated .

The HU is a Kenwood Excelon DXP-701. It was their top of the line double din (non lcd), but the discontinued it. I found a place that still has a few. Othewise, you can still get the 501 and the 301 I believe, they look physically the same. You can still get the 701 for $330 bux at Main Street Car Audio.
I would just say take your time with the Silver Lincoln face, if you cut too much off or scratch the front of it, youll have to order a new one From what Ive heard the factory brackets fit alot of the double din lcd units. If it doesnt, you can drill your own holes in the factory brackets(or enlongate the existing ones, which is what i had to do), just be sure to look carefully at how deep/shallow you want the radio to sit in the dash.
I just got done installing my amps and building my sub box. Ill post some pics in a new thread.

Where are they?
I am not seeing the faceplate on LSKoncepts.com. Are they not being sold? Is there somewhere else to look for interior replacement panels/plates?

LS-N-IT that install and interior look really good. Good thread, I'm about to dive into this double DIN install as well with a DDX-7019. Looking forward to ditching the skipomatic stocker.
Someone asked about the face plate from LSKoncepts, I confirm he has them, I got one recently from him.....
