car wont start, need to re-program key, help

My car recently had a missfire occuring so we took it to the ford dealer to get checked. They couldn't figure out what it was but put there guess on the cars computer. I bought a computer and tried installing it and the car wouldn't start, thinking the new computer wasn't working I put its original back in but it still wouldn't start. I called the dealer and asked them about that and the mechanic told me that the key needed to be re-programed for that computer and it was unprogramed for its original comp, but he didn't know how to re program it. Does anybody have any info on this?

Do you have a 1st gen or a 2nd gen?

1st gen its a dealer thing, 2nd gen you can program yourself if you have 2 original keys, its in your owners manual.

If you have another key (even a valet) that works you should be able to start the car at least with the original computer. If not then you're gonna have to tow it to a dealer so they can hook up their scanner to it and reprogram it.

It's not the key that needs to be reprogrammed. The key numbers are still stored in the PATS module. The replacement PCM has to be married to the PATS and other modules in the car.
