For a build up of gunk like you are describing, I usually make a paste with powdered laundry detergent and water and then scrub the area with the paste on a toothbrush. It's simple and cheap and laundry detergent is gentle on the leather or vinyl. It also does a great job of getting the grime...

Worked on the most tedious project thus far...painted the front of the engine cover a few weeks ago and now I'm working on bringing out the Lincoln symbol and V8 in relief. Got this far and then the third margarita kicked in. I'll post finished picks tomorrow after its done and clear coated.
