brendangillespie June 17th, 2005, 09:51 AM Anyone know if it is easy to remove the back seat on a '98 Mark VIII LSC? I am exploring options to reduce weight on my car, and am thinking that the back seat probably weighs a lot... Also, if I can get it out, I will probably mount both of my amps back there, do a nice custom job.
JoeyLincolnMK8 June 17th, 2005, 09:54 AM it should be easy, the guys that did my system pulled out my rear seats. they said it was not a problem.
NYC LS8 June 17th, 2005, 09:56 AM The front seats eight more than the backs. I wouldn't bother removing them for weight unless, like you said, you were gonna do something custom with amps or whatever. You'll see how light they are when yuo go to remove 'em..
PioneerCrazed June 17th, 2005, 10:44 AM OK, I'm going to try to explain how to do it, bear with me here. First, you need to unlatch each side of the bottom of the seat. To do this you need to push down on the front edge of the bottom, then push back on it, it should pop up (Do this once on each side).
Then you can remove the bottom, it weighs about 3 lbs. For the back you should now see two bolts that need to be unbolted, then pull the back straight up until it releases, this piece weighs about 4 lbs. All done.

Rather have something warm and hard to sit on???
Sorry I had to. I thought from some of your other posts you could handle a little teasing.

It's better to be serviced in the front seat than to lay down in the back.:woowoo2:
buddylee June 17th, 2005, 01:27 PM this is hardly a back seat to laydown in, too small.
My Old Car `69 T-bird thats a backseat, I slept back thier and
I'm 5"11 .
mespock June 17th, 2005, 01:43 PM I can't see your gain from removing the rear seat unless you need the space for something else.
Oh and Goddess I think you sparked a fire with some of these boys LOL :bestwishe

rmac694203 June 17th, 2005, 02:43 PM the back of my girlfriend's monte carlo was big enough, so the backseat of a mark would probably be fine
scott9050 June 17th, 2005, 03:29 PM You have plenty of room in the trunk for your audio equipment, leave the back seat alone.
meangy9 June 17th, 2005, 04:23 PM my backseat is removeable 95' mark 8, it doesn't weigh anything, but you do hear and feel the bass better without it in the way. But on the other hand it just looks like :q:q:q:q in the back unless you want to cut the metal bars that are in the way....you can hide the wires that are behind the seat. Have fun

lol... my amps and the subs, + the capasitor, weighed around 150 lbs!
brendangillespie June 17th, 2005, 08:00 PM Ha! I loved how this thread turned into "how big the back seat is for other things" and "where the best place in the car is to get serviced".....
Thanks for the info on the back seat. I probably won't remove it now, after hearing how little it weighs. It's still a possibility in the future if I decide to do some kind of custom job back there...
Lincolns Own June 18th, 2005, 11:24 AM u can do it!
both ways!
lol
