87 mark vII eats batteries, need some help

I have recently taken out the entire dash to change the heater core. I took everything out, even all the A/C hoses, all that is left are the wires and the fuse box and some stuff that was mounted to the metal bracket that was bolted to the dash. SInce I have already taken out the dash , I decided to replace it with a custom fiberglass dash.

The problem is that now with the dash completely out the battery will not keep a charge. If I jump start it, it will run fine for about fifteen min. then it will die, even if I am steady on the gas. I can not figure out what the problem is. I was thinking that some wires that were connected to the frame of the dash were grounded to it in some way, but I'm not sure. :Bang

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

If the amp light is disconnected from the car, the battery will not charge. Jump the wire that feeds the amp light in the dash and you should be good to go.

Sounds stupid, I know...but that's Ford.

No problem, man. I had read it elsewhere and it just sort of stuck in my head. Let us know if that cured the problem :Beer

aircooled VW generators also needed that light to make the regulator function. Mine was burned out and I replaced the generator ($100) and the regulator ($45) only to have my uncle tell me that the circuit depended on a $0.50 light bulb, and sure enough it was bad. I was not happy.
