I have a 03 ls but the dealer gave me an 02 manual. I'm trying to shut the seat belt reminder off, im following the instructions to a T but its not working is that because the steps to shut off the reminder are different in the 03+ ls? If so can someone post these steps. I would get the info from the tech articles but the links are not working for me.

What are the steps? I remember turning mine off as one of the message center functions. Other Fords use a series of steps of buckling and unbuckling the seatbelt.

the 02 manual says unbuckle then buckle the seat belt 3 times then turn the parking light on then off then buckle and unbuckle the seat belt 3 more times it also says make sure the e brake is on and the car is on the "on" mode but not started I did all that and it is not working :Bang

I'm thinking I'm doing the light part wrong also.. 01 model has same routine to turn it off right?

turn to On, have ebrake up doors closed seatbelt undone.. wait 1-2minutes for the seatbelt light to go off.. seatbelt on then off 3x, turn park lamps on *just the yellow lights, not actual head lights*, then off, 3 more fastens of the belt... then it says within 7 seconds of the light turning OFF you have to do it again?

Turn car on but do not start.
Wait until the seatbelt light goes out.
Quickly buckle and unbuckle the seatbelt three times leaving it unbuckeld.
Turn parking lapms on, then off.
Quickly buckle, then unbuckle the seatbelt three times leaving it unbulcked.
The seatblet light will flash once.
Immediately buckle and unbuckle the seatblelt once.
The seatbelt light should flash several times then go out.

That's the way I remember it and have been doing it on our CV P71's.

I think it works without the e-brake set... it has on all the other cars I've done it to.

I figured out how to do it on the 03+ ls's it is different instead of doing the crap listed above all you do a buckle and unbuckle the seatbelt 9x's

Black03
June 15th, 2005, 06:56 PM
yeah, you have to do the 9x thing, then dont you do it once more for a confirmation or something? Been a couple weeks since I did mine.

yes 2002 is 3x parking lights 3x yada yada, 2003 is 9x's. they are different. The online manual said have the e-brake pulled, i didn't try it w/o it pulled so i don't know for sure.

Once you start your car, just press on the seatbelt unlock button and it will refrain from reminding you from then on.

I got this off a previous post and copied and seved it to my email so I cant remember who wrote it originally
Seat Belt Deactivation/activation Programming Procedure.

BeltMinder feature One time disable
Any time the safety belt is buckled and then unbuckled during an
ignition ON cycle, BeltMinder will be disabled for that ignition cycle only.
Deactivating/activating the BeltMinder feature
Read steps 1 - 9 thoroughly before proceeding with the

The BeltMinder feature can be deactivated/activated by performing the
following procedure:
Before following the procedure, make sure that:

² The parking brake is set.
² The gearshift is in P (Park) (automatic transmission) or the neutral
position (manual transmission).
² The ignition switch is in the OFF position.
² All vehicle doors are closed.
² The driver's safety belt is unbuckled.
² The parklamps are in OFF position.

To reduce the risk of injury, do not deactivate/activate the Belt
Minder feature while driving the vehicle.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON) position. (DO NOT
START THE ENGINE.)
2. Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off. (Approximately 1-2
minutes.)
² Steps 3-5 must be completed within 60 seconds or the procedure will
have to be repeated.
3. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the
safety belt unbuckled. This can be done before or during BeltMinder
warning activation.
4. Turn on the parklamps, turn off the parklamps.
5. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the
safety belt unbuckled.
² After step 5 the safety belt warning light will be turned on for three
seconds.
6. Within seven seconds of the safety belt warning light turning off,
buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.
² This will disable BeltMinder if it is currently enabled, or enable
BeltMinder if it is currently disabled.
7. Confirmation of disabling BeltMinder is provided by the safety belt
warning light flashing four times per second for three seconds.
8. Confirmation of enabling BeltMinder is provided by:
² The safety belt warning light flashing four times per second for three
seconds.
² Followed by three seconds with the safety belt warning light off.
² Once again, the safety belt warning light will flash four times per
second for three seconds.
9. After receiving confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is
complete.
