I need to re glue my mirror to the wind shield. Any of you folks out there know if there is any "trick" to removing the metal mounting button from my plastic mirror body. I can't seem to budge it. Perhaps there is something that I'm missing but its stuck fast to the plastic. I don't want to force it too much and break the plastic. The mirror was knocked off once during a safety inspection and re attached by the offending garage. I wonder if they got glue between the button and the plastic. Any ideas would be welcome. You're welcome.
You first have to remove the magic eye with a short phillips head screw driver. This will then expose an allen wrench set screw. Once that screw is completely removed, the female end that is connected to a ball joint ~should~ slide up and off of the button that is attached to the window.
If you have the auto dimming rear view mirror option:

you first have to remove the magic eye with a short phillips head screw driver. Then, using the small blade screwdriver or reasonable facsimile, separate the button from the female end that is connected to a ball joint by sliding your flat stock between the button and the latch on the inside of the female end.
Take LOTS of pictures for us to see.

Yep, Oldschool I do have the magic eye but not the auto diming mirror. I'll have a look tomorrow and follow your instructions. Not able to do digital pix yet. I'm a bit too old for that new technology. And, that's really a pain when it comes to dealing with problems on my LS which seems to me like one big computer with motor and wheels attached. Guess I'll have to get out of the dark ages and learn more about computers. My sincere thanks for your help.... Lincolnlov

Don't sweat the pictures. I'll take em the next time I'm in the driveway.
