Lugi20 June 2nd, 2005, 10:00 AM My windshield wipers are jazzed up, only the last two setting work properly, and they are Fast and Ultra Fast, all other settings move, but lock up and stop a few times every single swipe, so I have wipers just sitting in the middle of my windshield sometimes!
Do I need a new windshied wiper relay / timer? There is one on ebay for about $20 bucks? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7977414165&category=33657&sspagename=WDVW
Anyone that knows more about this please let me know!
Thanks

I had similar issues on my '93. I replaced the complete wiper motor assembly(including the park mechanism) and it was fixed. 2 yrs ago it was like $50 at NAPA. :steering

It seems like my motor is fine, I mean, on high speed, it works great, but when it is on the intermitent speeds, it is very herky, stopping intermitently throughout the swipe. Also, when I spray washer on the windshield, the wipers don't stop on their own, I have to go to high speed, then power it back down. Also, if my timing isn't right, the wipers don't recess themselves all the way, rather, they stay part way up, but if I shut off at extactly the right moment, they will go down into the off position. Its wierd, if all I need is the part from ebay, cool, I just don't know for sure.
scott9050 June 2nd, 2005, 11:21 AM I have all the wiper parts from my 96 and I will sell you what you need when you figure it out cheaper than the guy on Ebay.

I understand your hesitancy to believe it, I did also. But the manual has pages upon pages of troubleshooting steps... I studied them and the EVTM)Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual) and arrived upon the conclusion to replace the wiper motor. It is far from a simple 'motor'.
Note the wiper motor I purchased was a reman unit and came with the park assembly, something that I heard later units do not come with? I recommend looking into that possiblity.

Yep, same experience. I had the same experience on a 1984 Cougar and spent way too much time trying to get that one fixed. As soon as my Mk8 started doing the same thing I decided I was not going to waste my time, I just replaced the whole wiper motor assembly. Got new motor (reman actually) and thirty minutes later problem solved and I could go do something else on the Honey-Do list.
