Hey guys, I just have a few quick questions regarding the removal of the lower intake resonator/snorkel plastic crap. I have heard it is a knuckle buster and you must take off the passenger side tire off to get to it.

Can anyone give me any pics/advise on how to get rid of this resonator thing . I am trying to complete an CAI setup, but I need to remove this junk before I go any further.

Yeah, I pulled the passenger side front tire to make it easier access.

Peel back the plastic inner fender for access. Remove the air filter housing completely. Look down on the inner fender where the air filter box was and you'll see a 3" or so hole. On the other side of the inner fender is the intake silencer/snorkel. It mounts to the inner fender with 3 or more rubber isolators. Usually the nuts will not come off and the rubber isolators will just turn. Some will cut the fasteners with a dremel blade or just literally rip them out like I did using care not to damage air line or the compressor directly below.

If you should need to remove the front bumper cover - it will be easier yet.

Just making sure that I'm reading this right.... The silencer/snorkel is the plastic piece that you can see when you take the air box out right? Looks like a black plastic tube right under it? I'm going to rip mine out too. I like when you can do something to your ride for FREE!

I tore one out of a 97 LSC this weekend. 5 minutes, once the tire is off(if all the bolts spin freely) I had one that threaded 1/2 way off, then spun from below. I snapped a pair of needle-nose vice-grips on the threaded stud, and finished removing the nut...

yanking it out with the compressor still in there takes a few...but once it's out...send it back to NASA surely they had to be the ones to design such an abomination.

took me a very very long time to get mine out of my gen 1, if i had had a dremel, it would have taken less time.

I have a hint that helped me. The studs get stuck a bit if trying to pull from the bottom so I took my crowbar and pushed down into the assembly from above and freed them in just a few seconds and it was totally free to pull out. Took me maybe 3 minutes total after I loosened the bolts to get it out.

Oh, you wouldn't believe how bad I stall on jobs like these. I had this damn 255 walbro and AFPR at my house for half a year, it's still not in yet. Alot of maintenance is getting done this month. Then we'll see if I got any left over cash for some power.

Jon Ike...I tell ya what, I'll come over and remove the silencer for you. However, my method requires removing your hood...I just hope I put your hood back on your car...sometimes I get confused, and put MY hood on other people's cars, and drive home with theirs! :slam

Ok, well I removed that POS snorkel/ NASA Space material looking thing. LOL.

Very easy to remove, although it was a bit of knuckle buster.

Went out for a lil' drive afterwards and love how it sucks more air now. I can definently tell that it improved airflow by its, already loud, sucking air noise. Awesome stuff. Now I just have to finish the tubing for a custom ram air intake. Woo Woo ! :woowoo2:
