Brake Pads Whistling

hi all,, i live in lebanon and its a bit hard tog et the parts for the markVIII since i hav the only 97 markVIII LSC in the country,,
even if i go to the company, they hav to roder it from abroad,,
1st: i wana know how much do brake pads for my car cost in the stats coz i dnt plan on getting ripped off
2nd: i replaced mine last week and they were a bit bigger than the factory ones,, they started whistling when i come to a complete stop or slight braking,,
mechanics told me its coz they r brand new and they need time to adjust,,
how much of that is true and what can i do to get rid of the whistling souind,,

hello Alex.

What type of brake pads did you use? another thing, did you have the brake rotors machined? I have never noticed any "whistling" comming from a new brake job. I have heard what sounded like a faint grinding noise, but that went away after they were broken in.

sorry i threw the box,, but i could get u the name,, the look exactly the same as the old ones but red in color and slightly larger,, but they didnt have tht thin metal sheet the factory brakes had

Did you use and anti squeal on the backing plates? could this be what you mean by squealing? That was one of the functions of the thin metal sheet, It takes the vibration out of the pad before it gets amplified by the rotor. The also sell a silicone like product you smear on the back of the pads before you install them that work even better.
