A far-reaching proposal from the FBI, made public Friday, would require all broadband Internet providers, including cable modem and DSL companies, to rewire their networks to support easy wiretapping by police.

While im not supportive of any measure which further infringes upon individual liberties, what they are proposing isnt really all that big a deal. ITs more about keeping up with the times. You can get wiretap orders for phones and to bug rooms -- why not for internet? is it not a new form of communication jsut like the phone more or less?

It is coming to the point where they are going to have your bathroom tapped and can tell you the last time you took a ......... well you know. Don't we have to draw the line somewhere? I am not saying this is the place but where do you draw that line if any?

trouble with drawing a line is that technology moves forward and the line has to move to be reletive. you can legally tap a phone line, and thus, someone using dial up and a laptop......... All they are doing is expanding it to include the new technology - broadband internet.
I dont have a problem with the legality of tapping things, but I do with the standard by which they determine if its permissible to tap or bug someone in the first place. You basically need little more then a cop's affidavit.
