Do you smell that?Mac3.9 April 26th, 2005, 07:31 PM I own an 01 LS8.I 've got a little problem.I changed the oil and now I smell oil.I thought I might have spilled oil but,I checked and I didn't see any.I've heard the valve cover gaskets are prone to leaking??? SurfjaxLS April 26th, 2005, 07:38 PM Could be. After you turn the car off, check for the smell around the valve covers. If it is strong, they are probably leaking. Mine was leaking so bad, that some of the oil started burning and smoke was coming off the valve covers. luckieleo April 26th, 2005, 10:31 PM do a search for "smell oil" and somewhere, on here, someone had this problem. turns out it was just some oil that dripped on something that gets hot, causing it to burn a little & smell. should go away in a day or two or three... cant really remember... If the smell persists, contact your physician, er--LVC immediately.... :) mayhawboy's LS April 27th, 2005, 07:37 AM I noticed the same thing on my '01. just a couple of days after an oil change smelled oil, AND SAW SMOKE, from the driver's side of the hood. But that was the only time. hmmm. Took the car to the dealer for it's next scheduled appt., they checked, no leaking oil. However they noticed my tranny pan was leaking. I still wonder though, about the valve covers since i have read some threads of this prob. JohnnyB April 27th, 2005, 10:50 AM It sounds like leaking valve cover gaskets to me. Check and see if any of the coil boots have oil on them; if they do, then you should change the valve cover gaskets. luckieleo April 27th, 2005, 12:20 PM It sounds like leaking valve cover gaskets to me. Check and see if any of the coil boots have oil on them; if they do, then you should change the valve cover gaskets. ive got leaky valve cover gaskets, and mine dont stink. :N also, my coil boots didnt have oil, the oil is IN the spark plug well. take out the spark plug & look down inside there... thats where the oil is. 2 of the 3 spark plug wells on the right hand side of my car had some oil in there. i have the parts, just havent had the time to replace the gaskets. kleetus April 27th, 2005, 11:23 PM Do it soon before it takes the coils out... | |||||
