Well listen to my story, I was on my way to summer school in the subway train (not mandatory), I was one stop before my destination and then this cop walks in asking for tickets. I showed him mine, and he said how old are you?, im like, 17, then he told me to get out, and wrote me a ticket for truancy, after I showed him all my credentials and papers about my school, he said he didnt care, put me on a van with bars and took me to the school jail, and set me up for a court date..!! wtf?? IM WITH YOU.. ALL THEY DO IS HARRASS PEOPLE.. and thats when I decided to buy myself an LS....

Yeah that is just wrong. I would file some type of harrasment down at the station. Though that would probably just get you even more harrasement. It is truly a shame that a young man can't roll a nice car without getting harrased. That is bull$*&%!!! :soapbox:

dont be such a prick to the cops, and they wont really harass you. :N specially if its an area you go thru alot, and plan to come back to. they WILL remember you, and if you are going a few miles over & remember you were the little prick giving them a hard time, they wont give you a brake.

they are doing their job. i hate people who think cops are out to get people. yeah, some cops get bored & dont have a reason to stop you, but god, just kill em with kindness. you'll learn!!!

being nice has helped me get out of like 3 tickets.
maybe being a young female helps too! :woowoo2:

one i couldnt get out of and i EVEN CRIED!!!!!! i was going like 90-something on I80/94S, and saw a cop coming the opposite direction, slammed the brakes to slow down (good thing i did, cuz he had his radar on) he turned around in a DITCH to come after me, and pulled me over saying he clocked me at 88. i was nice to him, but he went back to his car and i said, "wait! look your gonna run my plates & my dl# and see that i have no tickets, im a good driver w/a good record, please dont give me a ticket." he went back to his car, sat in there for like 10 minutes, so i knew he was writing a ticket for me. he handed it to me & i started crying and said "im from out of state, cant you just rip this up & give me a warning?? he said no. i cant. so i said "thats not very nice, you people dont give anyone a break" he said, you almost got me there, but i cant give breaks for going 22 mph over the limit!!! i continued to tear, and said "what can i do to get out of this, can i take a class? what? he said call the number on the back of the ticket.

that was that. i called the #, the ticket was $95, but if i wanted it off my record, i could pay an extra $50 and get 6 months supervision. after 6 months no moving violations, it is OFF MY RECORD!!!! :) YAY!!! a clean slate, once again!!! :L

Oh yeah, i keep thinking, next time i get pulled over for speeding, i can say "i have REALLY bad diarreah, i NEED TO GO NOW!!!!" and they will let me go, but last time i got pulled over and got that ticket, i remembered that excuse, but when the cop looked at me, i couldnt get the balls up to say it. someone should try it & get back to me. let me know if it works!!! :)

I do agree that most cops are cool and have good intentions but the few like the clown that harrased this guy give the good ones a bad name. What he did was out of line. He had no reason to call a K-9 unit to saearch his car. I just feel it is little ridiculous.

Oh and bye the way I am sure that you being a cute young female has helped you on more than one occasion

yeah, but the cop was being a smartass just like the guy who said "no you cant search my car"

if you have nothing illegal, yeah, ask why, but if someone wanted to search my car & i knew i had nothing in there to get in trouble, i'd be like "fine, whatever" and that would be it. the officer would have said "thanks, have a nice day.. sorry to bother you" but since he gave the officer a hard time, the officer got back at him & gave him a hard time. i'd do the same thing if i was the cop. :)

Around 10 years ago I was pulled over for speeding about 2am after driving my girlfriend home.
I was driving a brand new Nissan extended cab lifted on 35' tires, 5% tint, and four 12's in the cab.
The cop gave me the sobriety tests and he said I failed them all (I hadn't had a drink in days)so he needed to take me in. At which point I told him he better get me the breathalizer, now.
Then the a$$whole made me wait outside the truck while the K-9 unit was comming with the breathalizer, which wouldn't have been a problem except I was only wearing boxers. No shirt, no shoes and it was December. I did have a hunting vest in the back but he wouldn't let me get it.
When the lady cop with the breathalizer got there she asked me why I was shaking naked in the street, so I explained with a few four letter words and she ripped the other cop a new one.
After two hours I passed the breathalizer, the dog found nothing, and the ba$tard still gave me a ticket for 55 in a 35 mph zone.

Years went by and one day a familiar face came into my audio shop wanting to have a stereo installed in his new Corvette (under 2000 miles).

I padded the equipment and labor prices to more than compensate for that little ticket.

Oh, and have you ever seen a new Corvette do donuts and get stuck up to the body in a gravel pit, then drug out with a chain attached to a 4x4 Nissan ? :steering

I don't think the guy was being a smart ass as much as he was challenging the cop as to why he wanted to search his car. That does not happen enough in my opinion. Cops just do what they want and that is why so many people get out of things that they actually did do wrong, and that is cause cops don't follow the law. Everyone thinks because they are law enforcers they must know the law, well I assure you, they don't on most occasions.

I forgot about that, the cop did search my truck(with my permission) before he gave me the sobriety tests and I was more than polite untill he asked me to stand outside in the cold. I even asked to sit in the police car, but he said no.

If there are cops who want a big bust enough to treat a kid like that what makes you think they wouldn't plant something in the car.

I don't invite strangers into my house and I won't ever give a cop permission to go into my vehicle again.

Probable cause and evidential maters are for the courts to decide, unless you give permission. Then one bored a$$whole who wants to make a name for himself can make your life a living hell.

:I i got pulled over countless times in 2 years of driving my old beater (91 Olds 88)

but in the linc, i've only gotten pulled over like 3 or 4 times in 2 years of driving it. i do wear my seatbelt 90% of the time, and always use my signals. the only thing that would scream for me to get pulled over is my speeding. :steering

and dont get me wrong, i never said cops are always nice & always do the right thing, but they ARE authority, and most of the times if you fight authority, you lose. "i fought the law & the...LAW WON."

they can do things you dont have control over. i just think the smart thing to do is be respectful. if your a prick, they have more reason to be a prick. it doesnt always keep you out of trouble, but puts you at less risk for more trouble. that is all.

luckieleo its not that easy. Im young, hispanic, live in suffolk county and constantly have to drive late at night from my recording studio. Take it from someone who gets pulled over more than he would like to cops are pricks.... period. Ive been driving since I was 16 and trust me Ive run into lots of "officers" who are nuthing but a disgrace. I have a family member that works in the courts and you would be surprised how much they get away with. In bayshore, theres a street where lots of day laborers meet to try to get work. In the summertime at least once a week usually on a monday they go to the courts to pick up their money. what happens is the cops round them up on fridays when they are walking home these guys get paid cash so the cops take their belongings. after a few hours of harrasment they release them and tell them to pick their stuff up on monday at the courts. only problem is there never is money at the courts. Its bogus, they take the money!!!! lots of these guys dont have legal id so they lose out. So your right the law always wins but its not always right. But enough depressing crap cuz the forum is supposed to make us happy. Your car looks nice with the new lights!!!

From the tickets that I have got in the past, the LS seems to be the best car not to get pulled over in. I owned a 1985 Mustang GT convertible (still do) and was pulled over all the time for reasons unknown to me. I also owned a 1990 Mustang GT convertible and had the same problem. I'd get pulled over and talk to the cop and I'd end up with a warning. However, a couple of years ago I was driving a 2001 LS-8 and was pulled over for 79 in a 65. The cop was a complete jackazz about the whole situation. He gave me the same line as to why I was driving a new Lincoln around and he also gave me the whole line about having my parents give it to me.......blah blah blah (my parents own a dealership and they let me take it out for the night..........i earned everything i ever got from them because I worked for them). I don't think the LS attracts cops so much but when you get pulled over and they see the car up close and the driver being young.........best bet you're getting a little more attention paid to you. Just my experience.

But yeah, I think a cop who asks to search your car just because you're young and driving a nice car is a bit overkill. I would have given the cop an attitude too..........like i'd be doing something wrong while driving if i had a trunk full of drugs.......i think not. I appreciate what the cops do and I give them the respect that they earn from me. Just because they wear a badge doesn't mean that they garner the respect. If they treat me nice then I treat them nice. If they dont, then forget about it.

I hate to sort of agree with you. B/C I' am white and I have yet to be pulled over and I have had two close calls where I should of been. (once for 15 over the other for 12 over) but around here (Richmond VA) the cops here take a good look long look at the car, the chorme rims and then at me and just drive by. It's even more apparent now since I have one yellow light and the other is a xenon attracts their attention but still nothing:).

But then again I guess it depends where you are and which cops u deal with so I have nothing against cops...I am studying to be a cop (most cops have college degrees nowadays) or maybe a lawyer.... (either way I won't have to worry about being pulled over in the future) :)

I guess because of my age I don't get pulled over much anymore. Unless I'm doing something stupid. Which I can still do. My middle son is 21, he gets pulled over several times a month. And always gets his car searched. I asked him why, he told me he didn't know. He's young and they know it !! But lucky for him he never has anything to get busted with. They just break his BALLS. Hillsborough County Florida has a lot of Sheriff Deputy's. There the biggest bunch of a$$holes I've ever seen. I told my son to start getting badge #'s, then we can call Internal Affairs and report them. My son told me they never get him on anything, they just pull him over, and make up some bullsh!t excuse on why the pulled him over. Crap like this needs to stop !!! A co-worker of mine has a brother thats a Deputy. He tells me of all the DRINKING partys they have, then go out and drive and tear up the streets. I'd love to get it all on video and then go to Sheriff. But my buddy won't tell me where they have there partys. Hang in there guys this is all over the Country. Most Cops "think" there above the law.

I used to get pulled over so much in my old car the narcos, not cops, knew me by my first name.
Example of conversation:
:narco comes up to window:
narc:"Hey Jerry, whats goin on?"
me:"Nothin much, just tryin to enjoy my day."
narc:"Yeah, its a beautiful day, you wanna step outta of the car for me?"
me:"Sure, no problem."
narc:"Put your hands on the hood and spread your legs."
:While patting me down and grabbing my nuts:
narc:"You been getting into any trouble lately?"
me:"not really."
narc:"Have any thing in the car?"
me:"Not that I know of."
:They never ask if they can search your car, while searching through my car, :
narc:"What year is this, its very clean."
me:"Its an '89, I try to take care of it."
:After finding nothing:
narc:"Alright, stay outta trouble."
I go on my way.
It's almost impossible to get pulled over by cops in Chicago unless you're doing 100 or you're driving with somebody on the hood of your car.

No he didn't and I didn't recognize him either untill he gave me his (business)card. How could you forget a name like Justin Pickle and if there are more than one , how many are police.

I would never suggest that all cops are a$$wholes but power corrupts even the best of us and even though we would like to think that stereotyping is wrong, its a natural process in the brain that is reinforced by the situations we experience.

I've witnessed a few instances of descrimination, either for being young with a nice vehicle or being with friends who were DWB (Driving While Black) and therefore I don't trust Traffic Cops. With that knowledge, how can I blame a cop that has seen more young and minority groups commiting offenses for not looking the other way as I drive by with 6k in tires and rims and more $$$ in stereo than in the car. Now I didn't say the young and minority groups are commiting more offenses, but its easier for a cop to spot them or even hear them comming.

I always told my customers that stickers on a vehicle naming the expensive equipment inside were called "Please come steal my $hit stickers" and big crome rims and fancy paint jobs were "Pull me over accessories."

It's a shame, but it's a fact.
One of my best customers was a major dealer in the LA and MS area and he said, "If you don't want to get picked out of a crowd you have to blend in." Then he got into his white F150 with 20K worth of stereo and drove away. His other 6 cars sat at the house most of the time.

Since I bought my LS the only changes I made to the outside was 1k worth of tires and a college logo plate for the rear. I've gotten some warning flashes and sirens but have yet to be pulled over, which before was at least a monthly occurance. The funny thing is I'm driving faster now than before.

Do like I do, when they are being asses. Ask them to speak up and smile so that your lawyer who is on the other end of the phone can get everything clear. After all he would not want to have bad audio and video at the trial to have his badge taken away. I did this exact thing while holding my phone up at the cop and he sure did beat a quick path to his car and take off leaving me standing there on the side of the road with a big smile on my face.

Not all cops are bad, just the ones that wear uniforms or carry badges!!

I don't trust any cops period!! Some of the power does get to some cops head and some other cops the power get so much to handle that they start becoming crooked cops thinking they can get away with certain things!! Glad to hear you jacked up the price on officer PICKLE...officer JUSTIN PICKLE!! What an aZZ

I got pulled over twice a month in my old car. 82 Olds. Cutlass Supreme. But my lincoln is great, only have gotten 2 tickets with it.

I found that my illegal tint helped me out a lot, before the tint i would always get scared and scare at the cops and while staring they thought i had something to be nervious about. But now i can stare at them and they can't see me and they don't really inforce the tint thing any more over here, unless you do something stupid then they will add it to your ticket.

On my b.day last year i was driving home and i made a U turn and sped up because cars were comming and i didn't want to impede on the traffic. Turned out the headlights were cops (2 cars). I stopped at a red light and they were behind me but i still didn't know they were cops. It was cold and i just left the place i was at so i was putting on my sweatshirt and the light turned green on me and when i noticed it i pressed the gas really fast and lit the tires up on accident. Two seconds later i saw x-mas hell lights in my mirror and pulled over. Rolled down my windows real fast. The cop asked me where i was going, where i was comming from, why i was out at 2 am, why i was driving such a nice car, whos car is it, had i been drinking, am i under the influence of anything. He didn't search the car but he got his maglight and shined it on my backseats only and that was it for that. He tells me to step out and hands on my head spread my legs, rubbed on my sack for a little bit. Then sat me on the curb. I was being nice to him and i also let him know it was my b.day and told him to let me go. He said "one minute" went into his car. He came out and said, "Well i am going to cut you a deal today, because its your b.day i am not going to write you a ticket for speeding, and i am not going to write you a ticket for no front license plate. And i am not going to write you a ticket for being mexican(he didn't say that lol) But i am going to write you a citation for 'lane straddling' " WTF is that??? anyways kept postponing my trial and went to court finally and he didn't show so i got my money back and case dismissed. about two weeks after that ticket i got another ticket for calfornia stop and i payed that one and went to traffic school so dismissed... Thats it for tickets in that car.

I don't hate cops, most are pretty ok around here, they have enough idiots around here to keep them from getting bored. although i have never been pulled over when the sun is out. Some select cops are :q:q:qs though. Was sitting with my friend in the back of his pickup eating in n out one day parked in a parking lot and the :q:q:q(white) came up to us and wrote us both fines for loitering. My friend (black) told him that the ticket was stupid (not in a malitious tone either) and the cop harassed him, searched him, and threatened to tow his truck.

I have generally found the oppisite with the Lincoln, cops ignore it because it's not like some attention grabbing Mustang or Camaro.

i agree with u brent. since i got mine it is like the cops just wave and go on.
i havent had any prob with them.

Racial / gender / age profiling SUCKS, but it happens. Cops should NOT pull you over UNLESS you are doing something wrong, like speeding or weaving in your lane. THEN they have "probable cause", and can then pull you over. At that point, the door is wide open for questioning (how many drinks have you had?, can I search your car?, etc). HOW you react to those questions will make ALL the difference in the world in whether the cop will "harass" you or not. If you start being a smart ass, you are guaranteed to get "harassed".

Personally, I would never allow a cop to search my car without a search warrant. NOT because I'd be afraid of what he might find (although that long-lost roach left burried under the carpet by a previous owner always concerns me), but because I refuse to surrender my rights to a cop. I'd at LEAST ask the cop WHY he wants to search my car, then respectfully request that he obtain a search warrant first, then I'd be happy to comply.

A friend of mine got pulled over once late at night driving under the influence. He locked the doors and kept the windows shut and told the cop that he did not trust him that he was a real cop (at the time there had been many instances of fake cops pulling over women and raping them). My friend demanded that the cop obtain a search warrant signed by a judge before he'd open his door and get out of the car. While the cop got the warrant, my friend slept off his buzz in the back seat, and by the time the warrant was obtained (takes a while late at night) he was able to pass the breathalizer test.

One time my friend was driving drunk, and he was pretty smashed which wasn't good, and he had an half bottle of vodka on the passenger side floor, which my other friend had between his feet. Low and behold he gets pulled over for "rolling" through a stop sign. What he did next amazed the :q:q:q:q out of me, considering this guy is an idiot. He pulls over, turns off his car, takes the keys out, steps outside the car with the car keys in one hand and the bottle of vodka in the other, puts both hands up in the air, he's doing this while the cops are getting out of their car, drops his keys, opens the bottle of vodka and starts chugging. The cops arrest him and give him a breathalizer at the station and he fails, obviously, but he beats the case in court. Turns out the cops couldn't prove he was drunk while driving the car. He said he was completely sober while driving and got drunk after he got out of the car and chugged the bottle. Lucky SOB.

Anyone that drives drunk deserves to die just like friends of mine who died by the hands of someone as absolutely retarded as your so called friends are.

Besides, Something isn't right there, even if they had been drinking before like you said, and they got the breathalizer after, they'd still have registered... How else do you "prove" someone is driving drunk like you say they couldn't? Last time i checked with vodka staying in your breath alot longer per hour/glass than any other alcohol.

Sounds like he paid some people off to not look like more of a jack ass than he already is.

I only can wish the worst of things to happen to him in the future, perhaps take one of his own family members out or one of yours, then lets see how much light you make of the situation.

IF YOU DRINK AND DRIVE YOU ARE A RETARD <-- remember that

By the way if you really want to post about some stuff like that, read this http://www.freep.com/news/locoak/wreck4e_20050504.htm it happened today by someone as stupid as your friend.

People drink and drive everyday. To each his own. I've had friends that have died while drinking and driving, I've had friends that have died in a car accident when being sober.
You just answered your own question. They couldn't prove that he was drunk while he was in the car, but they could prove that he was drunk while standing outside the car, not driving. He drank the vodka while standing outside of the car. Plus they didn't test the passenger, they let him go. There is no way the cop could prove he was drunk while driving, he could only prove that he was drunk while standing next to his car. If you drink right before a breathlizer or drink all night and take the breathalizer, an alcohol content will still show up. Like they say when you have to get a breathalizer in your car, I used to have to install them, don't use mouth wash or take cough syrup before blowing because it will show up.

Perhaps my post was confusing -- First off if they pull a driver over, and they're drunk in the car, how do they prove it then? Probably by a breathalizer or test at the station, and i highly doubt within the 1 minute he chugged it, from when they took it away "he was that drunk". Besides I know plenty about the law, and getting out in the middle of a road without a cops telling you, to, having an open intoxicant in the car, and drinking in public is disorderly conduct, he got something, hes just not telling.

Never the less im not going to argue his stupidity, And yeah people do die in accidents every day, so how in gods name can you even attempt to compare that to a loved one dying by the hand a stupid ass like your friend?

Oh wait you can't, its not happened 'yet'

Like I said before, my friend is an idiot. I don't condone drinking and driving what so ever. I'm just saying that it happens because there are idiots out there like my friend.
Once again, cops turn on the lights and you pull over. The cops sit there and run your plate, while they were doing this, my friend steps out of the car and drinks. Then the cops step out of the car and arrest him. Take him to the station and test him. Got it?

Attitude man, it's the difference between a chat, and a bunch of tickets. Be nice and respectful to any/all cops, and you get off lightly. Cause EVERY time I've been pulled over, I've deserved the attention. But I've only got a ticket a few times. And I deserved every single one of them :D.

I haven't been pulled over once in my LS though (even though I've done my most agressive driving ever in it), and I'm also way too young for the LS (25), and don't look the part either.

I used to get tickets once/year or every other year or so before I got my LS.
With my LS, I have been pulled over 3 times in last three years.
NO TICKETS!!! so far it's all been a warning.
One warning for speeding, another for tinted license plate, one for blue LED angel lights. All 3, cop was going on opposite direction and did a u-turn to follow me then got pulled over. Maybe thought I was too young to drive a lincoln(???), gets pulled over, I have all the correct paper work, they give me (or come up with) some warning and let me go.
Im always friendly with them.

The last two times I have been pulled over I was doing 15-20 over. Each time the cop came to my window, I had my DL and reg. ready, my window down, I was smiling, and I said, "You got me, I am sooo sorry, I wasn't paying attention to my speed." I act real sheepish and deferential, which gives them a feeling of being in charge, and both times they didn't even go back to their car, they just looked at my DL and said, "All right, I'm gonna let you off with a warning this time...", etc. To which I reply, "Thanks so much, officer, I don't deserve it." Then I go on my merry way. Of course I live in Louisville, which is a lot like Andy Griffith's Mayberry, so that may have something to do with it. I also only drive 9 mph over most of the time, which means no points if they want to ticket me. It's not worth it to them and I haven't had a ticket in over 10 years. Not a very exciting story, I know, but I like to stay out of the spotlight.

My motto: Kiss the butt of the cop, it's worth it in the pocketbook.

BTW, these stories are amazing.

In my run ins w/ "The Law" it usally been wrong place wrong time and luckly I'm not doing anything ileagle so I don't get in trouble but the first time I got pulled over was in my 71 Ford F100 you know. And I was on my way to work and was runnig a lil late so you guessed it I was speeding and a Hypo got me and i was doing 65+ in a 55. So I pulled over had my stuff ready but wasn't in view cop asked for it gave it to him he looked over it at the time I had OK licence plate on it in the end I was real polite he was nice to and I just got a warning for my plate/

P.S. It also helped that there was accident passed my house.
