What to do 1st?

Just purchased a 2000 V8 non-sport. Has 87,000 miles. I do not perceive any problems with the LS, I Love It and cant keep the wife from taking it from me.

1. Should I get a tune up, and should I spring for the best? What should I expect to pay for the complete job. No not attempting this one myself for now.

2 I live in a state that does not check emissions. My muffler shop will do whatever I ask, wink wink. What modifications should I consider. I usually have the catalitic converters bored out, would that hurt or help the performance. Any suggestions?

3 Where do you put your Cell Phone? what an oversite!

depends on weither you want 'show' or 'go'? you can do both.

Well definitely the go, without hurting the show.
As far as the go I dont want to go crazy under $500 should do. :steering

the only thing I would add - $3000 to paint it black - helps both 'show' and 'go' :Beer

Well it is already black.

What is a cat black system? Is that something that can be done piece by piece or is sold as a kit. NO IDEA.

usually cat-back is sold as a kit - it replaces your exhaust system form the catalytic converters back to the tail pipes. Usually it includes bigger tubing, better flowing mufflers, and nicer looking exhaust tips. sometimes it includes a x-pipe.

all add to less flow restriction and better performance and sound

you usually start with getting more air into the engine - then getting more air out. intake first, exhaust second.

One question Quik.. I have a ESP warranty that came with my car and lets say if I wanted to get the magnaflow cat back system would doing that void my warranty? Just wanted to know before I purchased them. :L

I would focus on that. My wife stole my first one from me and now we have two.

The Magnusson-Moss Act

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/workshops/warranty/comments/nagle.htm

The Magnusson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975 protects consumers from such fradulent activity by new car dealers. Under this Act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not void a vehicle manufacturer's orginial warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warrany or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure. The easiest way to check this is to look in your owner's manual under, "what is not covered". Under Magnusson-Moss Act a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before they can deny warranty coverage. If they cannot prove such claim-or offer an explanation- it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission (202.326.3128) administers the Magnusson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law.

Putting on a CAT-BACK exhaust will not void your warranty. The dealer would have to prove the exhaust cause the damage to whatever you take it in for. Look for the Magnusson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975. It explains this.

Edit: Looks like Lou already beat me to it.

yeah, in the 00 model, which is what i have too, we still have the dinky armrests & not much storage...your right!
if theres not 2 drinks in the cupholder, i'll put it in there, otherwise i keep my cellphone in my lap or in my pocket. its on vibrate all the time, so i prefer it in my lap or pocket so i feel it. yikes! that doesnt sound good, but you know what i mean. :steering

thanx.

modding as much as I do you have to know about warranties and state DOT laws.

My car is still under warranty - but I'd have quite the fight to get them to do anything - they can't get the car up on their lifts (I had to show them how to lay down some wood to drive up on it first)...

We have annual inspections in Texas - so I got to know what things I can and can't do, or at least can un-do for the inspection....

i have talked to a bunch of places to see if it was possible to hook up my lg 7000 up to the factory system and so far theres no way thats soo stupid, you would think something could be done, so we dont have to hook up service to the ZACK MORRIS phone that comes with the car

Ha! That's exactly all that I have space for in mine too. And when I have to get the pen out, forget about it. That requires stuffing the long wire of the phone charger back in when I'm done. I would have to say that the lack of storage in the LS is one of the only drawbacks for me. Other than that :L

True it does have a small amount of storage...but looking at the bright side atleast it keeps me from keeping it cluttered.

mine's still cluttered. :(
less storage just means more junk in holder in the back of the seats (leather cleaner & other misc junk), and i have a bag in the back seat that holds junk (1st aid stuff, a black sharpie, excedrine, a spare set of sunglasses, a flathead screwdriver, etc..)
i also have a toolbox in my trunk filled w/misc tools... not to mention both of the door storage things are full of stuff (couple cds, sunglasses, perfume, boxcutter, etc...)
and my 250 cd holder, and a 45 cd holder for my mp3's only...they both just float around the back seat..

i keep alot of stuff in this car for it not having lots of storage space...!! :L

Still have not had this question answered. :feedback

Ok so the cat back system is great. But they install right behind the catalytic converters hence the name. My muffler guy will actually blow out the cat converter so there is still the appearance of being there but they do not function. would this be a good performance mod? or would it just make the car more polluted?

IMHO - I wouldn't. you have O2 sensors both pre and post the cats - and your post sensor is going to read more fuel in the exhuast - thus it will lean out the intake charge trying to correct it.

The LS uses high-flow cats so you will not see the types of performance gains they did in the old days.

not to mention - it's illegal.
