03-05 LS Exterior Mirror Retrofit to a 00-02 LS

I had a little free time today to install my 2003-2005 LS Folding Mirrors with Puddle Lights. I had them painted to match my car and it was a spot on match. Damn my painter is good!

Anyway, the retrofit was pretty easy once all the wires were identified. I started with the passenger side first. Here's a quick run down:

1. Take the door panel off and unplug the harness. Just put the panel out of the way.
2. Next came the trim around the top of the door. This just pulls out. Don't worry if the clips come off. The trim piece will go back on.
3. Unplug the mirror harness connector and pull out the plug holding the harness to the door.
4. Carefully pull the protective cover over the holes where the bolts are for the mirror. Just put this to the side. You will re-install it later.
5. Take the three 11 mm nuts off the mirror. Be very careful taking them off. The nuts can be lost inside the door. I lost the first one down between the door and I had to take the speaker out to locate it. What a pain that was!
6. There is a retaining clip that you will have to release for the mirror to slide out. Carefully remove the mirror.
7. The 2003-05 mirrors will fit in the same slot as the old mirrors. Just feed the connector and harness through the hole.
8. Replace the 11 mm bolts and tighten the mirror down.
9. The connector is the same as the 2000-02 mirrors so there is no need to do any additional wiring other than to wire up the puddle lights.
10. There are two additional wires on the 2003-05 connector. One is Brown and the other is Black. Those wires are what powers the puddle lights. These will need to be spliced to the Orange/Yellow and Brown wire coming from the door lights. I just spliced into the wires coming from the female connector that hosts the male connector from the door panel. You'll see the Orange/Yellow and Brown wire. It was on connector pin 9 and 10.
11. Splice the Brown wire from the new mirror plug to the Orange/Yellow wire.
12. Splice the Black wire from the new mirror plug to the Black wire.
13. Close the door and re-open it to see if the puddle light comes on. If it does then you've got the right connection.
14. Put the protective cover back over the holes where you took the nuts off.
15. Replace the inside door trim.
16. Install the door panel and your done.
17. Proceed to the driver side and repeat steps 1-16 above. One thing to note: The 2003-05 driver side mirror has an extra set of Brown and Black wires in connector pin number 19 and 20. Disregard these. Only use the Brown and Black wires from connector pin numbers 17 and 18.

One thing I noted after these were installed is that the mirror is smaller on the 2003-05 assemblies compared to the 2000-02 assemblies. I had to get use to it driving this evening. However, I loved the puddle lights after dark. They really light up what's in front of the door. I definitely recommend this upgrade!! Here are few shots of the finished product:
