My fiancee's mom moved out of state and my fiancee is living in her mom's house. Is it necessary to get renters insurance if your renting from a family member?

Period. topher5150 December 1st, 2010, 12:20 PM well that settles that. I am defiantly signing up when I move in taylor414ce2003 December 1st, 2010, 12:26 PM I would contact the ins. agent and ask what is covered under the moms policy! k9t8m December 1st, 2010, 06:33 PM mine is super cheap. $100\yr for $20000 in coverage. dollman0 December 3rd, 2010, 09:46 AM mom's policy may cover some of your stuff because it is family, but insurance companies will exclude anything they can. My policy is around $100 a year like someone else stated. You can call your insurance company and add it to your existing policy at any time. There is a different policy if you rent the house than homeowners, you should also find out if mom has the correct policy on the property if she is renting it out. I used to sell insurance. And always had renters. Mine is a little more then $100 but I have too many guitars all listed. FYI certain things i.e. instruments, guns, computers may require additional coverage(may differ state to state). Not really expensive but your SOL if not added. Also most renters policies include liability, as in if someone trips and breaks their leg and sues you have coverage. topher5150 December 21st, 2010, 09:16 AM +1 on all accounts.
