Scrapping the 5-speed mark.

Allright,

The 94 is done in my book. That being said, I am putting my C-Head engine in the white 95, along with my hubswap, and cobra brakes.

The thing I am wondering about the most is, should I swap the manual trans components, or leave it automatic.

Discuss.

I have a gut feeling that after driving one with a 5spd for so long you wont like it with a automatic...

But if you decide that you dont wanna do it I call dibbs on all the parts :D

Do the swap, you already know what's involved in putting it in a Mark VIII.

my question is, if you have a fast shifting auto what are the pro's of a stick? Better launch?..Pardon the ignorance.

possibility of better launch, 5 gears instead of 4,( or 6 if so equipped) no torque converter= no power lost due to slipping, etc.

Ability to grab whatever gear your heart desires

Whats wrong with her didnt you just put a new engine in it?

hail storm trashed the hood, roof and trunk

The advantage of the 5-speed is much less drivetrain loss (our cars are 20%+), better gearing, better fuel mileage and a lot more fun to drive.

As for Mike's question, I think that the stick is most definitely more enjoyable. That being said, I know you went through a lot to get it done and I heard you mention several times what a pain it was. THAT being said, this is the time to do it since the motor is coming out anyway.

I guess weigh the effort to install it versus the enjoyment you get out of it. I know you thought it was a pain, but it will go easier this time. A lot of things are a pain, but only you can tell us how frustrating it was to do.

Stay auto, so I can buy your setup.

You have mentioned a few times, if you could do it over again, you would go auto. Guess you really just need to decide if you want more cruising (auto) or more performance (manual).

What about this. Swap over everything into the white, except the tranny. Cruise around for a bit, and decide after. Sure it would be easier doing it all at once, but this will give you a good compare and contrast.

Another bit of food for thought: Are you willing to do two manual conversions? You know I still want to swap mine, so if you stay auto, you will only have to do it once this year.

I have NO clue why you are doing this Mike... wtf.

I would say swap it to a manual... if you don't swap it I want the parts for Stack's car :)

I've had 7 people lay dibs on this setup if I don't use it. :D The only thing I don't want to deal with is the firewall/pedal/wiring issues.

I was driving with the wife, last night and realized how much I missed having the manual on recreational drives. On commutes, the auto is nice.

I dunno just yet.

Make that 8......:)

I have both cars now Brandon. I can't keep both VIII's, my F250, AND my wife's car at our apartment, nor do I
Want to pay for insurance on both viii's.

I'm just gonna combine both viii's to make a much better car overall.

i say swap it... remember how much you liked driving the Cobra? I like drive the Cobra better than the Mark just because of the 5spd... I know the cobra has the gear but still there is nothing like having something shaking your hand when your having a little fun...

oh and if i had the time/patience and money I would love to swap mine over... even in the traffic i have to deal with I like the 5 spd... and the Mark would probably stay fairly stock... until i got a bug to mod it more than the Cobra...

Not cheap, but it might help with the wiring issues....

One day I may get the balls to do this swap.

Really though with the tech of today I would prefer the new 6 speed auto and make a flappy paddle for it. It would prolly be easier to put one in and add the trans computer for it then swapping a stick anyway.

Thanks DLF,

Let me rephrase, I have the wiring harness lengthened already, it's just the 10 pounds of :q:q:q:q in a 5 pound box, under the hood that I don't want to deal with.

I'm gonna do some looking to see if I can move the clutch master resiviour. That'll make things MUCH easier.
