HID Flash

I found a set of Aftermarket 55 watt, 5000K hid's on CL list here locally.
After installing them,(they work great), i noticed a microsecond flash from the Hid's when I arm the alarm with the remote.

is this normal?
Does anyone elses headlights flash when they arm their alarms? my halogen low beams didnt flash like that before. or, if they did, they werent visible.

ive been considering the HIDs more and more, and was wondering, why wouldnt just any Ballast and bulb work...given the proper rings to hold the bulbs..

couldnt i just pull some out of a salvage car and wire it up?

Mine do it when I double push the lock button on the remote. It's not hurting anything. My 94 done it also with a different kit but now I have the digital slim ballasts and they do it too. The ballasts I have on the high beams, if switched over to the lows will not flash the lights. Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it Because I have flashed mine hundreds of times and it's never messed a bulb up yet.

Pardon my interruption OP, but does anyone have a link to where I can get one of those kits? I put a battery in my car for the first time since rebuilding it today and I noticed that the driver side headlight looks blue and the pass. side looked white. So I need to do something!!!

For the price you can get the after market ... why bother .... Plus they are plug and play ... but if you want to do it yourself have at it.

Let me know how you all fare with DDM Once one of your bulbs go out and they give you the run-around on warranty. I've heard no good stories with them. I can't speak from experience though.

My experience has been with HID extra hidxtra.com (or was it hidextra.com) and with several sets bought from them, never had any issues.

HID's are so common place now. I bought mine locally. It cost me $50 for the set. If I have bad bulb or ballast, I can just bring it back and they will replace it no questions asked. That's pretty common around here in Houston.

That's interesting. When I converted my tail lights and trunk lights on my '96 to LED's, they started flashing when I hit the lock button on my remote. They never did that before with the incandescent bulbs. Wierd.

Yea, they are all over the Harwin area. You know where that is. Right?

6000K's are gonna have more blue cast than you think. my 5000K's even have a tinge of blue. unless thats what youre looking for. but i dont have a blue Mark. I like my 5000's but i think would get 4300K next time.

I sure do miss Houston, Westheimer/Beltway 8 area. I can't wait to be able to transfer back home. Gman, do you live in West Houston?

The lamps are suppose to flash. With the incandescent lamps you need total darkness to even get a hint of it. Basically its a poor design on Ford's part, they just did not set something up right to make the flash long enough. With LED there is not long warm up time for a filament, so its much more noticeable.

No, I live in Spring, but I am there at least once per month. Myco is right around the corner from Harwin.

Just out of curiosity, I went to the DDM website and I can't find Lincoln in the make/model search section. Did those of you who bought HID's from them just get a generic set and install it? And did it require the extra relays and other components to make it work? I'm thinking about converting my '96 to HID's and the '97 LSC's high beams to HID's and I want to make sure what I get is "plug-n-play". I don't want to have to do any extensive modifications to the wiring harness if I don't have to.
