Anybody I know who 'thinks' it's an old man's car quickly changes their tune after a ride in my LS.

I know I'm lucky. But once I get kicked out of college b/c I spend all my time driving in the LS I will have to start paying the insurance.

I agree with u about having a nicer car then my parents...they have Explorer and a Caravan...lol.
And everytime I come home on vacation my father tells me that when he was my age all he had was a bike....I let him drive my LS once in a while.

I got it about a week before I turned 22.

I usually just say it's an LS and leave out the Lincoln part, then when they ask "what's that" I can give a short explaination before they get out the old person's car comment.

I think the4 "old persons" car sterotype is because on new car surveys, the average age for people buying NEW LS's is over 50. I think this has a lot to do with most teens thru 20's just don't have the bucks to buy a car that can get up over $40K.

The surveys usually only look at NEW car buyers.

In the second hand market the LS becomes Much Much more affordabale and is not much worse than the typical Rice Burner in cost and beats the heck out of most of them in all around fun to own in my opinion. So there are probably a lot of 20s and 30 something owners of the LS in the second hand market.

Lincoln came out with the LS to try to get market share in the traditional market of the premium Eurocoupe market, ie the 30 to 40 something group with some cash. Most previous generation Lincolns were aimed at older folks usually with cash, thus the older folks stereotype.

I am 48 and prefer to buy American because I feel American cars are under rated while the Benzs and BMws, while being good cars are not worth the ridiculous premium many people are willing to pay. Most Asian cars are FWD which I don't care for. The LS had the performance, some of the comfort, RWD and V8, and price/value I was looking for. Somehow I just don't see myself in a V6 Honda, I would way rather have a similar priced LS.

Just my opnion.

Whatsup,
Guess that I'm the only old guy in the bunch! My wife says that I drive like a 22 year old. Hell, it doesn't seem at all to me like that was 40 years ago. I still like to surprise Mustangs and blow the doors off those noisy rice burners, in either my Mark VII or my LS Sport. Like to give my neighbors heartburn too when they see under the hood or under the car changing the tranny fluid.
Most of them think I'm wierd but some of them don't even know how to change the toilet paper roll! Heh heh. lol, Lincolnlov

I bought mine when I was 25.
I got the exact same thing from others and my friends.
They said, you got a grandpa car.
one look, one ride, complete 180 turn.
anyone that thinks LS is for grandpa, doesnt know what LS is/does.
Even at work, everyone knows that this lincoln belongs to someone in 20s.
I think some scratch their heads, why? how?
I think it's true that most at my age can not afford a car this price, especially brand new. I'll take my LS over benz or beemer.
I always loved american car. call it patriotic...
Love my LS...

When this "old person car" happens at a gas station, I peel off as I leave, that'll put things in perspective.

i agree with the american part. my dad was born in mexico, but has been an american citizen/worker/taxpayer for 40 years now, and even though he's not paying for my car, he would not let me get a non-american car. neither would my mom! i'm glad for that though! i was originally looking to get a 2000 acura tl or a 95 mercedes s class. I'm 28 and I got mine in 2000 when the LS first came out. I can see how some people would say it's an old folks car... I think color has alot to do with that, and lack of tint or rims. I also think the chrome that is on the bumpers of some LS's detracts from it. Mine is a Black on Black 2000 V8 Sport so it's always had a younger look.

i'm 24, bought the car to take my new baby home from the hospital. I wanted my wife to have a nice ride that was safe and reliable. Little did she know that I bought the v8 for me and all. The safe and reliable part sold her on the car though, she also did think it was a fabulous looking car. I'm mean she does have good taste, she married me didn't she.

22, bought the car as a winter driver for me, and rest-of-the-year driver for my grandmother to replace her 95 Town Car that was...well, getting 3MPG because of a failed MAF...TC=project car when I get money...V10 anyone?

Also have an 03 Cobra. LS is not nearly as fast, but I sure do enjoy driving it. No worries about wheel hop either...The IRS in this thing is awesome, unlike the Mustang :-/

As for payments / insurance...whoever said $300/100..is LUCKY. I pay:
$740/month for Cobra (4 yr loan)
$450/month for LS (2 yr loan)
and..gulp...$2850 for 6 months of insurance on both. Thats WITH defensive driving discounts on myself and my grandmother :-(

But..It sure is fun having two cars, and saying you bought your parent a car instead of the other way around lol.

Some are jealous like my Boss' cause one drives an exploder and the other drives a '92 or '94 cavalier (I like cavaliers though, owned 3).

Wish my parents would offer to make a payment or two! Car payment=$469.29 a month, insurance=$786.04 a year I believe.

Yes, it is pretty high I'm aware. To think, I traded in a car where I was just paying 299.77 a month and thought that was high at the time! But it is worth the cash, if I was smart and did blow some of my downpayment money on a couple things I could of maybe had it at like $400.

Yea...I have had much more luck with cars I spent less than $500 on!! I have a $200/month payment right now, but you add in my repairs for the year so far and it is like having a $300/month payment. So...always have to add in repair costs. Any more major repairs and I could have bought a new car!

I got the "old man" thing when I started driving an SHO at 25. I'm now 35, and I have yet to hear the "old man" thing about the LS--but that's mostly because the people to whom I've talked are (a)car guys who are impressed by the performance; (b)non-car guys who are impressed by the luxury; or (c)non-car people who couldn't care less about it. Even my co-worker, who's such a non-car guy that he'd drive a toaster to work if it had wheels and got decent gas mileage, thought it was a cool car.

If they think it's an old man's car, they get the same response that the jerks who ride my bumper get: until you pay my car payment, insurance, and fuel bill, your opinion of my car or my driving are of no concern to me. :N

Nope; I've actually owned two of 'em: a '92 and a '95, both with the correct number of pedals. If there were a good manual conversion for the LS, I'd be seriously considering it... :wrench :steering

I did have the guy at the tire shop ask why I was putting V-rated tires on a Taurus. That lasted 'til I opened the hood and showed him the bundle of snakes and explained the 142mph top speed. :N

I still have the pressure plate with a partially blued and worn through diaphragm (with matching dead throw-out bearing) from the '95 to prove it. :( On the plus side, I also have an perfectly good original clutch disc and flywheel for same. :)

I can tell you that I can't imagine anything I'd have to do on the LS being any worse than changing those on the SHO...

Actually, I forgot about something when I said I'd never gotten an "old man's car" comment. Last month, when I turned 35, my brother called me so my two nieces (ages 3 and almost 2) could tell me happy birthday. After they talked to me, he and I started discussing something else when the older niece came back with something to say:

You're OLD!

Anyone who thinks the LS is for seniors needs to drive one. I work for Hertz and we have the opportunity to test drive many of the latest model cars, the LS being a favorite of most everyone who works there. I drove the 2005 LS8 and it is a car not for timid or faint of heart. It packs as much punch as the Jaguars that we drive with as much refinement. It is a true treasure to operate. Nothing in American Muscle and Luxury quite like it. :iconcur:

I drive a towncar which is constantly called a old persons car. However I like to point out people who owned pickups used to be called hicks, now their just trendy. As for the LS I would love to own one looks more like a bmw than an old mans car. I found many people don't know anything about lincoln besides the brand name. I have a tc my dad has a continental I've had people i work with 5 years call both everything from a continental to a crown vic. Usually they call the tc a continental and vise versa. I neaver really understood why a car has to be uncomfortable or imported to not be an old mans car, but hey I'm not an ideot.

well the old folks driving them in florida lasts from November to April then they go back to Indiana and such. I'd rather they stay north of the florida state line but can appreciate their love for the good life while driving great cars.

I don't personally care what age group "people" want to think my LS belongs in... All I know is that when the ladies see it they say only one thing..."WOW!"...and that my friends, is one of the main reasons we got these things to begin with.

Or am I just shallow...

BTW, 28 yrs old.

I think the stigmatism is the result of generations of Americans that grew up driving Chevy and Ford but always knew that Cadillac and Lincoln was the big luxo car to have. When they finally arrived to the point in their life where they could buy premium cars they went with what they knew.

I bought my car shortly after they rolled out of assembly so my friends really never heard of it before I bought the car. Well no one really knew of it because Lincoln failed to promote the car. At any rate I bought my car at the ripe old age of 31 because I liked the appearance of the car and was recognized the value of a car that is so well equipped. I would like to say that there was some patriotic motive behind buying the car but there wasn’t. It boiled down to looks, handling, safety and features. Of course my friends were wowed by it then after they discovered it was a Lincoln proceeded with the stereotypical comments.

Despite the long rough road of ownership; I still harbor the same feelings today as I did 5 years ago.

I also am rebuilding the motor in my 94 Probe GT. Hope to have it back on the road this summer.

I don't car what people say about lincolns, cadi's etc.. How many people went and bought tuners after fast and furious. Just so they could try and spend more buying and modding an uncomfortable unsuitable for dailydriving tuner so they could try and outrun a stock mustang v8 or corvette. Then of coarse even more money to try and handle as well. I buy and prefer the cars I do becuase of the style, ride and comfort & decent cost. Most people no matter what they say buy whatevers trendy or they get a deal on. Look at pickups for example they were for hicks mini-vans were for hippies (vw) large cars were family or muscle depending on engine option. Small(falcon size cars) were for a very few. Now suvs(mini-trucks) and trucks (for off roading or thinking they could) and cramming a family into a compact car or midsize interior with a high roof-line and a shortened bed (4 door trucks). Now these suvs and trucks are the new all purpose for a huge amount of people. And minivans the old new family car is now becoming a crossover vehicle.

Well, I guess that I'll screw up the average age here.

I'm new to the chatbox. I'm 62 years old, but I've been a car nut all my life.

Besides my 2004 LS8 Sport, I presently own a 2003 Tbird, a 1964 Tbird 4.6 LX, a 1964 Galaxy convertble (500XL clone) 352/250hp, and a 1958 TBird hardtop, 61,000 original miles (2nd owner) 352/300hp.

My favorite cars from the past (that I've owned), a brand new 1965 Corvette 327/300hp convert, two tops; a 1968 Cyclone fastback GT (302 4V, 4 speed); a 1985 TBird TurboCoupe 5 speed manual; and a 57 Chev BelAir, 283/220 hp, three speed Hurst, 4:11 gears.

Yes, I'm a car nut.

I dont drive an LS, I drive a Town Car. I am 21 years old, and had a 1990 Town Car as my first car when I was 17. Why should I be old to enjoy a premuim luxury sedan. Whoever says that a Lincoln is an old mans car should watch mob movies, they always have Lincolns or Cadillacs in them. I caught Donnie Brasco on TV, and they had the classic argument. A Lincoln is better than a Cadillac. Fugetaboutit!!

A funny thing I have noticed is that old people dont drive Lincolns and Cadillacs anymore. I see them in Hondas and Nissans, which would make my Nissan Altima an old mans car.

Got mine when I was 22 or something, only had that "its an old persons car" a couple of times until I informed them about it. Most of the time it was people looking me all pissed because I had a nice car and was young, that was about the greatest thing in owning one. Do not really miss the car now though beside the cd changer, sometimes I miss auto but not much. Love my new car much more.

My wife even says it's an old person's car. She has a Maxima. Her biggest complaint is the styling of the rear end, and to an extent I have to agree. The nose of the car looks sharp. They probably could have added a more euro-esque style to the back to make it look better. All things considered it's hands down my favorite car.

I think the Lincoln brand suffers a bit from an image of being The Town Car Company, making cars for old people. The LS is completely different, though, as we all know. Unfortunatlely the lack of advertising and marketing prevented the public from knowing the true advantages and attributes of the LS.

We went around a corner and I punched it with the TC off and sent the car sideways and then passed a mustang (don't know if it was a v6 or v8) and got up to about 100 before he decided I should slow down. Then I let him drive it.........changed his mind about the LS. He said he would never doubt a younger person driving a LS, he said it just isn't suitable for the 40+ crowd!! Nuf Said!!!!!!!!!!

No payments. Paid cash. Insurance 700.00 a year full coverage.
These cars depreciate so fast in the first 3 years it was a great bargain at 19k. Could have bought a Benz or a BMW but liked the LS better.

Thought the car looked kinda plain.
All you young guys seem to like the strpped police car look.
Most new cars today have hardly any chrome.
Wanted a little more flash.
Added the bumper chrome inserts,
stainless steel pillar posts, and the thin wheelwell chrome molding on a roll from pep boys and chrome wheels.
Also added a rear spoiler.

My other ride is a 97 Camaro supercharged LT-1 convertible.

But if anyone tells me i drive a old mans car i just laugh and once they go for a ride they have much more respect. I owned a 97 gsx, 95 gsr and wow luxury and this car is so much more better. I could care less about speed. People i think say old people because people know lincoln, cadillac, jaguar, etc. aren't cheap and expect old people to own it not young people. I am 16 (turned 16 in February) and I got my LS a week after my birthday. I hate to say it, but my parents did buy my LS for me. However, I'm in the same boat as you all. All my friends at school couldn't believe I wanted, much less got, a Lincoln. Once I brought it to school the first day, the main person who hated on it stood speakless as he looked at it out the window. He then turned to me, trying to find something to rag on me for, and he said "Is that wood on the steering wheel?" I just laughed and walked away. He swears up and down his '90-something grand prix can beat it in a race. I don't race, because I don't need to. He can dis me all he wants, like some of you have said, I got this car for me. :L Thanks Mom and Dad!

College educated with five years experience in the medical field.
After that I became a business owner. Had 2 of them. Now gone thanks to local government. After that started a 3rd business. Just closed after 4 years. Currently/temporarily retired 13 years after graduating college. Not sure what demographic I fit into as far as LS owners.

cars i've owed:
84 Chevy Cavalier
86 Nissan sentra
90 Toyota Corolla
89 Nissan 240SX
96 Mitsubishi eclipse GS
98 Nissan Frontier
2000 Mitsubishi Galant
92 Dodge Stealth RT/TT AWD
96 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST
90 Nissan 300ZX
99 Honda Passport
2000 Nissan Xterra
01 Lincoln LS
2000 Lincoln Navigator... all in that order. With all but 4 of those vehicles, I've either wrecked, sold to buy something else, traded-in, had ex-wife keep, had ex-girlfriend take, or gave away. I still own the Stealth, Eclipse GS, and both Lincolns. As my age increases it seems that the number of doors on my cars do the same. Fortunately, the horsepower number gradually moved up, too. As soon as QuikLS completes his SC project and puts it on the market, I'll have it mounted under the LS's hood. Seriously considering a Kenne Bell supercharger for the Navigator to push the 22's. Im 22, and most f the people i see around here driving an LS look to be in their mid 20's to low 30's, with the exception of this one hot soccer mom I see driving all the time. :p She must work near me cuz I see the car almost every day when im leaving or going to work. People always associate Lincolns and Cadillacs with old people, because they are usually the ones who can afford to buy them new, and in the past these cars were long boats like the cars that many older people grew up driving.

Most common drivers have know clue on the performance of a Lincoln especially the Mark VII's Mark VIII's and the LS's where Lincoln tried to draw in a younger crowd.

Now that these cars are much cheaper younger people (in debt with college loans, home loans, kids... can afford them).

The hey isn't that an old person's car will change.

Oh and I'm 46 bought my first Linclon at age 43... and drive it like I'm 25.... What I like is that I still get told that it's an old person's car.. Cool I'm not old yet..l.
